Job Purpose To assist the Nursing Superintendent in managing nursing operations, ensuring quality patient care, maintaining nursing standards, and effectively coordinating nursing staff across departments and shifts.

Key Responsibilities

Nursing Operations

- Assist in planning, coordinating, and monitoring day-to-day nursing operations.

- Ensure adequate nursing manpower and effective staff deployment.

- Monitor nursing activities across wards, ICU, OT, emergency, and other clinical areas.

- Ensure smooth shift handovers and continuity of patient care.

Patient Care &

- Quality

- Ensure compliance with hospital nursing protocols, policies, and clinical standards.

- Monitor patient safety, infection-control practices, medication administration, and documentation.

- Conduct regular nursing rounds and identify gaps in patient care.

- Address patient and relative concerns related to nursing services.

Staff Management

- Supervise and guide nursing staff, including Staff Nurses and Nursing Assistants.

- Monitor attendance, punctuality, discipline, and performance.

- Assist in manpower planning and staff allocation.

- Identify training and development requirements for nursing personnel.

Quality &

- Accreditation

- Ensure compliance with applicable NABH/hospital quality standards.

- Monitor nursing indicators, incident reports, medication errors, falls,



infection-control compliance, and other quality parameters.

- Participate in internal audits and corrective/preventive action initiatives.

Training &

- Development

- Coordinate induction and orientation programs for newly joined nursing staff.

- Organize in-service training, skill assessments, and competency programs.

- Promote continuous career development among nursing personnel.

Coordination

- Coordinate with doctors, clinical departments, pharmacy, laboratory, housekeeping, infection control, and administration.

- Escalate operational and clinical issues to the Nursing Superintendent appropriately.

- Support coordination during emergencies, high patient load, and special clinical situations.

Documentation &

- Reporting

- Ensure accurate and timely nursing documentation.

- Monitor nursing registers, reports, checklists, and records.

- Prepare and submit nursing-related MIS and operational reports as required.

Patient Safety &

- Risk Management

- Monitor compliance with patient identification, fall prevention, medication safety, and emergency protocols.

- Ensure proper reporting and follow-up of clinical incidents and near misses.

- Participate in root-cause analysis and implementation of corrective actions.
