About CivicDataLab

We work at the intersection of data, technology, design and social science to strengthen the data for public good ecosystem and citizen participation in governance. CivicDataLab (CDL) harnesses the potential of open knowledge movements to strengthen the data-for-public-good ecosystem and enable citizens to engage in matters of public reform. We work closely with governments, non-profits, think-tanks, media houses and universities to enhance their data and technology capacity to better data-driven decision-making at scale.

Our current areas of expertise include digital public goods & infrastructure (DPGs & DPI), climate action, public finance, urban development, open contracting and law & justice. We have co-created digital public goods like open data platforms, data exchanges, AI models and citizen-led apps for improving participatory data-driven governance in India and other countries.

About the Role

As a Public Policy Fellow, you will support research, stakeholder engagement and project coordination with public institutions. You will learn how policy ideas move from research and consultation into practical programmes and partnerships.

What You Will Do

This is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys exploring complex public issues, working with people and turning ideas into clear, helpful outputs. You will:

- Research government priorities, public policies, institutions and regulatory frameworks to understand how systems work.

- Map stakeholders and identify promising partnerships, datasets and public-interest opportunities.

- Develop compelling proposals,



grant applications, concept notes and partnership materials.

- Write blogs, policy briefs, research reports, case studies and other public-facing content.

- Turn meetings and research into clear presentations, recommendations and actionable next steps.

- Help plan and facilitate workshops, consultations, field visits and stakeholder meetings.

- Work closely with internal teams, government officials and external partners to move projects forward.

- Contribute fresh ideas to our work on data governance, responsible AI, digital public infrastructure and related policy themes.

Who Should Apply

- Freshers, recent graduates and candidates with up to two years of relevant experience.

- Graduates in public policy, political science, development studies, economics, law, social sciences, management, technology or a related field.

- People who can research carefully, ask good questions and turn complex information into clear writing.

- Candidates who are dependable, organised and comfortable following through on detailed work.

- Applicants willing to work in a hybrid setting and join field visits, government meetings and stakeholder engagements.

Useful but Not Required

Exposure to government or development-sector work, stakeholder consultations, public datasets, Excel or Google Sheets, data visualisation, Python or SQL, responsible AI, or digital public infrastructure.
