- We are seeking an experienced DB2 DBA / Database Architect to lead database transformation initiatives as part of a strategic Mainframe Exit and Modernization Program.
- The ideal candidate will possess deep expertise in both DB2 for z/OS and DB2 LUW, along with strong knowledge of AWS cloud database architectures.
- This role will be responsible for defining and executing database modernization strategies, leading large-scale migrations from mainframe platforms to cloud environments, optimizing database performance, and ensuring highly available, secure, and resilient database solutions.
- The candidate will work closely with enterprise architects, application teams, AWS specialists, and implementation partners to drive successful modernization outcomes.

Essential Job Functions:

Database Modernization & Migration

- Lead end-to-end migration of DB2 databases from Mainframe (z/OS) to DB2 LUW hosted on AWS.
- Assess legacy database environments and define modernization roadmaps.
- Develop migration strategies, target architecture, and implementation plans.
- Drive database transformation activities including schema conversion, data migration, and platform optimization.
- Analyze application dependencies and database impacts during modernization.

Database Architecture & Design
- Design scalable, secure, and resilient DB2 LUW database architectures on AWS.
- Define database standards, governance, and best practices.
- Develop logical and physical database models aligned with modernization objectives.
- Review and optimize existing database designs for cloud deployment.

Performance Optimization
- Analyze and optimize query performance, indexing strategies, and database workloads.
- Conduct performance tuning for both source and target database environments.




- Identify bottlenecks and implement proactive performance improvements.
- Support workload balancing and capacity planning activities.

Cloud Resiliency, Security & Operations
- Define High Availability (HA), Disaster Recovery (DR), backup, and resiliency strategies.
- Implement AWS-native and DB2-based recovery solutions.
- Ensure compliance with enterprise security, audit, and regulatory requirements.
- Establish monitoring, alerting, and operational support frameworks.

Cost Optimization
- Identify opportunities to optimize licensing, infrastructure, storage, and database operational costs.
- Implement automation and operational efficiency improvements.
- Recommend cloud cost optimization and resource utilization strategies.

Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or related discipline.
- 8+ years of experience in database administration, database architecture, or database engineering.
- Proven experience with both DB2 z/OS and DB2 LUW environments.




- Hands-on experience leading large-scale database migration and modernization programs.
- Experience designing cloud-based database solutions on AWS.
- Strong expertise in database security, resiliency, and performance engineering.
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in large Mainframe Exit or Data Center Transformation programs.
- AWS Solution Architect or Database Specialty certification.
- IBM DB2 Administration or Database certification.
