About the Role:

SMAITIC Labs is looking for an experienced Data Engineer (Mid/Senior Level) with strong expertise across the data engineering domain and a solid foundation in software development.

The ideal candidate should be comfortable designing and building production-grade data pipelines, data models, databases, and cloud-based data solutions while also understanding backend development and software engineering practices. We are looking for someone who can take ownership of complex data problems, troubleshoot independently, and build reliable and scalable solutions.

Key Responsibilities:

- Design, develop, and maintain scalable ETL/ELT pipelines and data transformations.
- Build and optimize data models, database schemas, and complex SQL queries for analytics and reporting.
- Work extensively with PostgreSQL, ensuring data integrity, quality, reliability, and performance.
- Implement CDC (Change Data Capture) and incremental data-processing workflows.
- Develop and integrate REST APIs and backend services for data-related applications.
- Troubleshoot data inconsistencies, pipeline failures, database issues, and performance bottlenecks.
- Build and maintain solutions using cloud-based data services and storage platforms.
- Collaborate with Software Engineers and business stakeholders to translate requirements into reliable data solutions.
- Participate in code reviews, testing, CI/CD, Git workflows, deployments, and production support.
- Follow sound software engineering principles while building maintainable and production-ready data systems.

Required Skills & Experience:

- Strong proficiency in SQL and PostgreSQL.
- Experience with NoSQL databases such as MongoDB.




- Hands-on experience with dbt for data modeling and transformations.
- Strong programming skills in Python and/or Node.js/TypeScript.
- Strong understanding of ETL/ELT, CDC, data modeling, and data warehousing.
- Experience with AWS, particularly DMS, S3, and Redshift.
- Understanding of REST APIs, JSON, and backend development.
- Experience with database optimization, indexing, query planning, and performance tuning.
- Working knowledge of Docker and Git.
- Solid software development fundamentals, including OOP, data structures, algorithms, testing, and software engineering practices.
- Strong analytical, debugging, and problem-solving capabilities.
- Professional experience building and supporting production data systems.

Preferred Skills:

- Apache Airflow or other workflow orchestration tools.
- Kubernetes and cloud-native infrastructure.
- Power BI, Tableau, or similar BI/reporting tools.
- Generative AI, LLMs, embeddings, RAG, or AI-assisted software development.

This role is suitable for someone who is more than just a SQL or reporting specialist. We are looking for a well-rounded Data Engineer who understands the broader data lifecycle—from ingestion and transformation to storage, modeling, APIs, performance, deployment, and production support.

Candidates should have strong hands-on experience in the data domain, while exposure to software/backend development will be particularly valuable.

Interview Process:

Our selection process will consist of multiple stages:

1. Aptitude Test — Virtual

Assessment of analytical thinking, logical reasoning, and problem-solving ability.

2. Technical Assignment — Virtual A practical assignment designed to evaluate data engineering, programming, SQL, and problem-solving skills.

3. Technical Interview – Round 1 — Virtual

Discussion focused on technical fundamentals, previous experience, data engineering concepts, and the submitted assignment.

4. Technical Interview – Final Round — In-Person, Bangalore The final technical interview will be conducted in person in Bangalore, India. Candidates must be available to attend this round physically.

All stages except the final interview will be conducted virtually.

Significant Note:

While this is a fully remote, full-time position, shortlisted candidates must be able to attend the final interview in person in Bangalore.
