Job Summary

Responsible for the effective cleaning, decontamination, packing, sterilization, storage, and distribution of medical and surgical instruments and supplies as per hospital protocols, infection control standards, and NABH requirements.

Key Responsibilities

1. Receive used instruments and medical items from various departments and follow appropriate segregation and decontamination procedures.

2. Perform cleaning, washing, drying, inspection, and preparation of surgical instruments and equipment.

3. Assemble and pack instruments and surgical sets as per the prescribed requirements.

4. Operate and monitor sterilization equipment such as Autoclave, ETO, and other applicable sterilizers.

5. Follow correct sterilization parameters including temperature, pressure, time, and cycle requirements.

6. Conduct and document chemical and biological indicator testing as per hospital protocol.

7. Maintain sterilization records, load records, cycle records, and equipment logs accurately.

8. Ensure proper labeling, identification, date, batch/load number, and expiry information on sterilized packs.

9. Store sterilized items appropriately and maintain sterility until distribution.

10. Issue sterile instruments, packs, and supplies to OT, ICU, wards, emergency, and other departments as per requirements.

11. Maintain adequate stock of sterile supplies and inform the CSSD In-Charge about shortages or replenishment requirements.

12. Handle instruments carefully and report damaged, missing, or malfunctioning instruments/equipment.

13. Follow infection prevention and control practices, including appropriate PPE and safe handling of contaminated materials.

Maintain cleanliness and hygiene of CSSD areas according to defined protocols.

15. Follow proper workflow and segregation of dirty, clean, sterile, and storage areas to prevent cross-contamination.

16. Assist in routine checking, preventive maintenance, and validation of CSSD equipment.

17. Immediately report any sterilization failure, equipment malfunction, or quality-related issue to the CSSD In-Charge.

18. Maintain departmental documentation and records required for NABH, infection control, and internal audits.

19. Participate in internal training, competency assessments, mock drills, and infection-control activities.

20. Follow hospital policies, SOPs, safety guidelines, and other duties assigned by the reporting authority.

Required Qualifications

- Diploma / Certificate in CSSD Technology / Sterilization Technology or equivalent qualification.

- Relevant certification/training in CSSD and sterilization procedures will be preferred.

- Basic knowledge of infection prevention and control practices.

Experience

- 13 years of experience in CSSD in a hospital setup preferred.

- Freshers with relevant CSSD qualification may also be considered based on hospital requirements.

Key Skills

- Knowledge of sterilization and disinfection procedures.

- Knowledge of surgical instruments and CSSD workflow.

- Ability to operate autoclave and other sterilization equipment.

- Positive documentation and record-keeping skills.

- Knowledge of infection control and biomedical waste handling.

- Attention to detail and ability to follow SOPs.

- Good communication and coordination skills.

- Ability to work in shifts, including weekends and holidays as required.
