- Group Cost Controller – Manufacturing (CMA)

- - The Chance

- - We are seeking a hands-on costing professional to strengthen cost control and profitability across two paper-manufacturing companies.

- - You will establish reliable manufacturing costs, identify where margins are being lost and work with plant leadership to turn findings into measurable improvements. Success will be assessed through accurate costing, corrective-action closure and sustained, verified savings.

- - Key Responsibilities

- - Establish standard and actual costs per saleable tonne by company, machine, grade and GSM.

- Analyse fibre yield, furnish and coating costs, chemicals, steam, power, labour, maintenance, rejects, trim and downtime.

- Reconcile material consumption, production, inventories and cost accounts; investigate discrepancies at source.

- Explain cost movements by separating purchase-price changes, consumption variances, product mix and capacity utilisation.

- Lead a prioritised cost-improvement tracker with quantified opportunities, accountable managers, deadlines and verified outcomes.

- Assess procurement alternatives on total delivered cost, quality, yield and consumption.

- Provide product and customer contribution analysis to support pricing, order acceptance and production planning.

- Evaluate capital expenditure proposals and validate savings after implementation.

- Present a concise weekly exception report and monthly cost-and-profitability review.





- Maintain applicable cost records and coordinate cost-audit requirements.

- - Authority and Accountability

- - The role will have access to relevant production, procurement, inventory and financial information, with authority to seek explanations and escalate unresolved discrepancies.

- - Plant heads will remain accountable for operational implementation.

The Group Cost

Controller will own costing integrity, loss analysis and improvement tracking. Savings will be independently validated by the CFO.

- - Candidate Profile

- - Proven ownership of factory costing, consumption analysis and inventory reconciliation.

- Experience in recycled paper, duplex board or coated paper strongly preferred. Candidates from other process industries must demonstrate relevant yield and utility-costing expertise.

- Strong Excel and ERP skills, with the ability to build reliable costing systems from imperfect data.

- Confidence to challenge assumptions constructively and work closely with senior plant managers.

- Demonstrated cost improvements supported by baseline figures, actions taken and verifiable results.

- Willingness to spend substantial time on the shop floor, particularly during the initial setup.

- - First 90 Days

- - Days 1–30: Assess data reliability, identify control gaps and establish provisional baseline costs.

- Days 31–60: Reconcile major variances and agree the ten highest-priority cost-improvement actions.

- * Days 61–90: Demonstrate initial verified improvements and present a quantified six-month implementation plan.

- - Performance Measures

- - Reliable and timely costing; closure of material and inventory discrepancies; corrective-action completion; and sustained savings without compromising quality, safety or maintenance reliability.

- - Selection Process

- - Shortlisted candidates will complete a practical assessment using anonymised manufacturing data and discuss cost-improvement projects they have personally delivered.
