Job Title: Content Researcher & Writer Intern The Footnote (formerly NH / News Hamster)

The Footnote is looking for a curious, sharp-eyed Content Researcher and Writer Intern to join our editorial team. We do contextual journalism, not breaking news, every story we cover gets unpacked for its history, its many contemporary facets, and the larger pattern it sits inside. If you like digging past the headline to understand why something matters, this is for you.

Responsibilities:

- Research: Dig into primary sources, reports, and data to build well-sourced foundations for explainers and deep dives.
- Writing: Draft scripts and copy for our two core formats, short explainers (5-7 min, every two days) and the flagship weekly deep dive (10-20 min).
- Fact-Checking: Verify claims, quotes, and figures before they go into a script; accuracy is non-negotiable.
- Multi-Format Adaptation: Help translate long-form research into Instagram carousels, reels, and short-form scripts alongside the editorial team.
- Editorial Collaboration: Work closely with writers and editors to shape angles, structure, and framing for each story.
- Trend & News Tracking: Stay on top of current affairs, policy developments, and the news cycle to spot stories worth a deeper look.





Qualifications:

- Education: Bachelor's degree in any field; students/freshers in journalism, political science, economics, or related fields especially welcome.
- Experience: Freshers welcome: no prior professional experience required. Robust writing samples, a blog, or campus journalism work count in your favour.
- Skills:
- Excellent written English and a clean, precise writing style
- Strong research instincts, comfortable with primary sources, reports, and data
- Genuine interest in current affairs, policy, and long-form journalism
- Ability to take feedback and revise quickly
- Comfortable working with deadlines in a small, fast-moving newsroom
