About the Role Nationwide is seeking an experienced Consultant Scrum Master to support the PET Business Solutions Area (BSA) and guide a high-performing, globally distributed Agile delivery team. This role will help the team deliver reliable insurance technology solutions while strengthening Agile maturity, delivery predictability, quality, and stakeholder confidence.

The ideal candidate will bring approximately 8-10 years of experience in Scrum Master, Agile Lead, Delivery Lead, or comparable roles. This consultant will operate as a servant leader, delivery coach, facilitator, and trusted partner to the Product Owner, technology leadership, engineering, quality engineering, data, and business stakeholders.

Experience supporting Guidewire InsuranceNow (GIN), pet insurance platforms, policy administration, integrations, batch processing, data movement, ETL, or operational stability initiatives is strongly preferred. The role requires excellent communication, strong facilitation, confident leadership, practical delivery judgment, and hands-on experience with Jira Cloud.

Key Responsibilities

- Lead Agile delivery for one or more PET BSA teams, creating the conditions for teams to self-organize, collaborate, and deliver meaningful business outcomes.
- Serve as a servant leader, Agile coach, facilitator, and delivery partner for the team and its stakeholders.
- Establish, reinforce, and continuously improve Scrum, Kanban, Lean, and hybrid Agile practices based on the teams delivery context.
- Facilitate daily standups, sprint planning, backlog refinement, sprint reviews, retrospectives, release planning, dependency reviews, and other team cadences.
- Partner with the Product Owner to improve backlog readiness, prioritization, acceptance criteria, story slicing, estimation, and alignment to PET business outcomes.
- Collaborate with the Tech Lead, engineers, Quality Engineers, Technology Analysts, data specialists, business partners, vendors, and delivery leaders.
- Guide work from intake and discovery through analysis, development, testing, deployment, production validation, and operational handoff.
- Identify, remove, and escalate impediments; drive transparent ownership, mitigation plans, and timely resolution of risks and issues.
- Coordinate dependencies across PET, Guidewire, policy administration, integration, data/ETL, QA, platform, and shared services teams.
- Maintain transparent and accurate Jira Cloud boards, workflows, dashboards, dependencies, release plans, and delivery reporting.
- Use delivery metrics to communicate team health and identify improvement opportunities across flow, throughput, predictability, quality, aging work, blocked work, and delivery risk.
- Improve the quality and consistency of Jira data,



including work item types, acceptance criteria, estimates, dependencies, Fix Versions, target dates, and status hygiene.
- Facilitate effective collaboration across U.S.-based, NIO-based, vendor, and other globally distributed team members.
- Coach the team and stakeholders in Agile principles, accountability, collaboration, continuous improvement, and outcome-oriented delivery.
- Build an inclusive, psychologically safe, and high-performing team environment where issues are surfaced early and resolved constructively.
- Encourage quality ownership, test automation, DevOps/DataOps practices, secure engineering, and continuous delivery improvements.
- Support effective release readiness, production stabilization, incident follow-up, defect prioritization, and operational learning.
- Identify opportunities to improve team maturity, delivery efficiency, product quality, stakeholder confidence, and business value realization.
- Contribute to Scrum Master communities of practice and share reusable delivery patterns, coaching techniques, and lessons learned.

Required Qualifications

- Approximately 8-10 years of experience as a Scrum Master, Agile Lead, Delivery Lead, Project Manager, or equivalent Agile delivery role.
- Demonstrated experience leading Agile technology teams through complex software, data, platform, or systems delivery.
- Strong practical knowledge of Scrum, with hands-on experience using Kanban, Lean, or hybrid delivery approaches.
- Proven ability to facilitate planning, refinement, reviews, retrospectives, dependency management, and continuous improvement sessions.
- Strong coaching, conflict-resolution, servant leadership, and influencing skills.
- Excellent written, verbal, presentation, and stakeholder communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to influence without direct authority and build trust across business, technology, vendor, and leadership groups.
- Hands-on experience with Jira Cloud, including boards, workflows, dashboards, filters, reporting, backlog management, dependencies, and release tracking.
- Experience identifying delivery risks, removing impediments, managing dependencies, and driving issues to resolution.
- Experience working with globally distributed and cross-functional teams across multiple time zones.
- Strong problem-solving, facilitation, organization, and decision-support skills.

Preferred Qualifications

- Experience supporting Guidewire InsuranceNow (GIN) or other Guidewire implementations.
- Experience in pet insurance, insurance technology, policy administration, underwriting, billing, claims, or related insurance business capabilities.
- Experience with GIN integrations, APIs, batch processing, data movement, ETL, data pipelines, or operational stability initiatives.
- Experience supporting data, analytics, data warehouse, reporting, DataOps, or platform engineering teams.
- Experience with production support, defect management, incident remediation, release stabilization, or post-production validation.
- Experience with DevOps, CI/CD, test automation, automated quality practices, or secure software delivery.
- Experience coordinating work across U.S.-based teams, NIO teams, offshore partners, and third-party vendors.
- Experience in insurance, financial services, or other highly regulated environments.
- Certified ScrumMaster (CSM), Professional ScrumMaster (PSM), SAFe Scrum Master (SSM), PMI-ACP, or comparable Agile certification.
- Undergraduate degree or equivalent experience in computer science, information systems, business, mathematics, engineering, or a related field.
