Better Works Hr is looking for a Legal, Compliance & Business Operations Associate

Role Overview
We are looking for a highly organised, detail-oriented, and proactive Legal, Compliance & Business Operations Associate to support a fast-moving, multi-entity organisation with international clients, partners, and banking relationships. The role covers legal, compliance, international banking, partnerships, HR, and business operations. A significant portion of the role will involve coordinating with international clients, banks, financial institutions, service providers, and counterparties across different countries and time zones.
The ideal candidate should be comfortable working in a global environment, managing multiple workstreams independently, communicating professionally with international stakeholders, and handling confidential commercial and financial information with discretion.
Key Responsibilities
International Partnerships & Business Development
- Research and maintain databases of international partners, vendors, and service providers.
- Manage outreach, follow-ups, onboarding, and account applications with global counterparties.
- Coordinate commercial discussions and support proposals, referral agreements, and term sheets.
- Manage ongoing communication with international partners and respond to operational queries.
Legal & Compliance
- Prepare, issue, review, and track commercial agreements, NDAs, and referral agreements.
- Redline counterparty agreements and identify matters requiring internal or external legal review.
- Maintain compliance records across multiple entities and jurisdictions.
- Support KYC/KYB, AML, regulatory, employment, and statutory compliance requirements.
- Coordinate with external legal and regulatory advisors across jurisdictions where required.
- Manage compliance-related correspondence and documentation with international counterparties and financial institutions.
International Banking & Financial Operations
- Coordinate banking operations with international banks and financial institutions outside India.
- Manage documentation for international account openings, including entity documents, KYB materials, beneficial ownership information, and verification requirements.
- Track banking applications and maintain regular follow-up with international banking partners through to resolution.
- Handle routine account, payment, and compliance queries with overseas banks.
- Coordinate internally to gather corporate documents, financial information, and verification materials requested by international banks.
- Maintain organised records of international banking relationships, accounts, approvals, access, and correspondence.
HR & Internal Operations
- Prepare HR documents including offer letters, exit letters, NDAs, and consultancy/contractor agreements.
- Support recruitment coordination, interview scheduling, candidate communication, and hiring trackers.
- Maintain HR and company records across entities.
- Coordinate with IT on email accounts, domains, and access management.
- Maintain operational trackers, documentation, licenses, and key company records.
Candidate Profile
- Bachelor's degree in Law, Business,
or a related field.
- 2–5 years' experience in legal, compliance, operations, business support, or a similar role.
- Experience working with international clients, overseas banks, financial institutions, or global counterparties would be highly relevant.
- Experience in fintech, financial services, payments, or another regulated industry is preferred.
- Working knowledge of, or willingness to learn, KYC/KYB, AML, and regulatory compliance.
- Strong drafting and contract review skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication, particularly for professional international correspondence.
- Highly organised, detail-oriented, and capable of managing multiple priorities, stakeholders, and deadlines.
- Comfortable working across multiple entities, jurisdictions, countries, and time zones.
- Solid discretion when handling confidential commercial, financial, and employee information.
- Self-directed and comfortable working with a high degree of autonomy.
- Proficient with spreadsheets, shared drives, and standard productivity tools.
Preferred Background
Experience in a startup or fast-scaling workplace, international banking relationship management, financial services/payments, partnerships, compliance, or multi-entity corporate structures would be an advantage.
Important Note for Recruitment
This is a globally oriented role. The candidate will be based in India but will primarily coordinate with international clients, overseas banks, financial institutions, partners, vendors, and advisors. Prior exposure to international stakeholders and the ability to work across different time zones and jurisdictions should therefore be considered an important part of the candidate profile.
