About IPHelm
IPHelm is an intellectual property services firm providing professional IP support to researchers, innovators, startups, universities, and research institutions .
We are looking for a Business Development Manager who can take responsibility for developing institutional relationships and generating current business opportunities for IPHelm.
This role will primarily focus on universities, colleges, research institutions, incubation centers, startups, and other organizations involved in research and innovation.
Key Responsibilities
• Identify potential institutional clients including universities, colleges, research institutions, incubators, startups, and R&D; organizations.
• Identify and contact the appropriate decision-makers , such as Directors/Deans of Research, R&D; Heads, Innovation/Incubation Heads, IP Cell Coordinators, Technology Transfer Officers, and similar authorities.
• Conduct professional outreach through email, LinkedIn, telephone, and other appropriate channels.
• Schedule meetings between potential clients and the IPHelm team.
• Develop and maintain long-term relationships with universities and research institutions.
- Follow up with prospects, meetings, quotations, and proposals until conversion.
- Build and continuously expand the institutional lead database.
• Maintain proper records of leads, contacts, meetings, proposals, follow-ups, and conversions.
- Work closely with the IPHelm technical team to understand our services and communicate them appropriately to potential clients.
• Identify opportunities for long-term institutional partnerships and recurring IP work.
Who We Are Looking For
• 2–5 years of experience in business development, institutional partnerships, B2B sales, education-sector sales, research-sector sales, or a related field.
• Experience working with universities, colleges, research institutions, incubators, startups, or similar organizations will be strongly preferred.
• Existing professional contacts or relationships within universities/research institutions will be a significant advantage.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Good follow-up, negotiation, relationship-building, and presentation skills.
• Ability to communicate professionally through email, LinkedIn, telephone, and meetings.
• Ability to research and identify new prospects independently.
• A result-oriented approach with the ability to convert conversations into qualified business opportunities and clients.
Important
We are not looking for someone whose primary approach is simply making a large number of calls or sending mass emails.
We are looking for someone who can:
Identify the right institutions → Reach the right decision-makers → Build relationships → Generate meetings → Convert opportunities into business.
Candidates with genuine university/institutional business development experience and an established professional network will be preferred.
Compensation Month 1 – Initial Pilot
- Fixed compensation: ₹25,000 for the first month.
• 5% incentive on professional/service fees actually collected by IPHelm from clients directly generated through the candidate’s business development efforts.
• The 5% incentive will not be calculated on government fees, statutory fees, or other third-party charges.
Continuation After Month 1
The first month will be treated as an initial performance-based pilot.
If the candidate demonstrates meaningful business development activity and promising results during the first month,
IPHelm may continue the engagement with a mutually agreed fixed compensation and incentive structure.
The continuation will depend on factors such as:
- Quality of institutional prospects generated
- Meaningful conversations with decision-makers
- Qualified meetings arranged
- Proposals and business opportunities generated
- Follow-up and relationship management
- Pipeline development
- Actual business conversion and revenue generated
What We Expect During the Pilot The candidate will be expected to take ownership of the business development process.
IPHelm may provide an initial list of potential institutions, company information, service details, and outreach material.
However, the candidate will be responsible for finding additional prospects, identifying the right contacts, initiating communication, arranging meetings, following up, and developing opportunities toward conversion.
The objective is not simply to create a large database.
The objective is to build a strong and qualified institutional sales pipeline for IPHelm.
Confidentiality The candidate will be required to maintain strict confidentiality regarding IPHelm’s business information, pricing, client information, leads, proposals, internal processes, and other confidential information.
An NDA/confidentiality undertaking may be required before access to confidential business or client information.
