Associate WriterMumbai | Writing | Full-Time | In office / Hybrid The Right Coll is an independent education consulting firm dedicated to guiding high school students and their families through the undergraduate college admissions process. Founded by Sweta Tibrewal, a globally certified career counsellor from UCLA, we take a holistic approach to helping students discover their authentic voice and find their best-fit college.

Our students have gone on to institutions including Carnegie Mellon University, University of Chicago, University of Southern California, Parsons School of Design, University of Edinburgh, University of Toronto, and Ashoka University, among others. We work with a limited number of students each cycle to ensure every one of them gets individualised, high-quality attention — and writing is at the heart of that attention.

About the RoleAs an Associate Writer, you'll work directly with students to help them discover and articulate their most authentic stories — through college essays, personal statements, and other components of the application. You'll be a thinking partner as much as an editor: helping students reflect on who they are, then shaping that into writing that is honest, distinctive, and ready for submission to top universities worldwide.

Responsibilities

- Guide students through the essay process — from brainstorming and outlining to drafting and polishing — helping them translate their personal story into a compelling, authentic narrative
- Work closely with students to understand their background, values, and goals, ensuring every essay reflects their genuine voice
- Provide structured feedback on content, style, and clarity across multiple drafts, ensuring essays are submission-ready for institutions like Carnegie Mellon, USC, and the University of Edinburgh




- Support students with other written components of the application, including activity descriptions and supplemental responses
- Maintain timely, responsive communication with students and families, in line with our same-day response standard
- Collaborate with the counselling team to ensure writing guidance aligns with each student's overall profile and application strategy
- Occasionally support content and writing needs for the company's public-facing communication (blogs, resources, social content)

Skills
- Exceptional writing skills, with the ability to adapt tone and style to each student's voice
- Strong editorial instincts — able to give clear, constructive feedback that improves a draft without erasing the writer's individuality
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; comfortable working closely with teenagers and their families
- Strong sense of ownership, organisation, and follow-through across multiple students and deadlines

Education & Experience
- Bachelor's/Master's degree from a strong Indian or international institution
- 1+ years of experience in writing, editing, or content — admissions/college essay experience is a strong plus
- Prior experience mentoring or working closely with students is a plus
