Job Overview The Electrical Takeoff qualified is responsible for preparing accurate and comprehensive quantity TakeOffs for electrical systems based on construction drawings, specifications, and project requirements. This role plays a critical part in the estimating and bidding process by ensuring precise material counts. The position requires a strong understanding of electrical construction practices, attention to detail, and the ability to interpret technical documentation across various project types including commercial, industrial, and residential developments.

A Day In The Life

- Review electrical drawings, specifications, and addenda to understand project scope and requirements.
- Perform detailed quantity TakeOff’s for electrical components such as wiring devices, raceways, Cable Trays, Cord reels, Cover plates etc as requested by the customer.
- Interpret power layouts, lighting plans, and control schematics.
- Identify gaps, inconsistencies, or conflicts in drawings and raise RFIs when required.
- Use estimating and TakeOff software (e.g., PDF, Bluebeam, Excel) to quantify materials accurately.
- Coordinate with estimators, project managers, and engineering teams to clarify assumptions and scope boundaries.
- Maintain organized TakeOff files, markups, and supporting documentation for audit and review purposes.
- Update TakeOff’s based on revisions, scope changes, or client feedback.
- Support bid submissions by meeting deadlines and ensuring compliance with project specifications and standards.

Educational Requirements

- Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in:
- Electrical Engineering
- Electrical & Electronics Engineering
- Power Engineering
- Construction Technology (Electrical specialization preferred)
- Equivalent technical education or trade certification with relevant electrical estimating experience may be considered (Ex AutoCAD, Bluebeam etc).
- Knowledge of electrical codes and standards such as NEC, IEC, IEEE, or local authority standards is an advantage.

Experience Requirements





- 2–6 years of experience in electrical quantity takeoff, electrical estimating, or electrical design support
- Hands-on experience performing material takeoffs for commercial, industrial, or residential electrical projects
- Proven experience working with: Electrical drawings (power, lighting, grounding, low voltage) Specifications, BOQs, and schedules
- Experience using takeoff and estimating tools such as:
- Bluebeam
- On-screen takeoff tools
- Excel-based estimating sheets
- Experience coordinating with multi-disciplinary teams (estimators, engineers, project managers) is an advantage.
