Purpose/Objective

The Associate General Manager - Techno Commercial will be responsible for managing techno-commercial activities of the power generation business, including fuel sourcing, contract management, commercial negotiations, regulatory coordination, budgeting, cost optimization, and stakeholder management.

The role demands a thorough understanding of thermal power plant operations, fuel economics, commercial frameworks, and regulatory requirements to ensure sustainable and cost-effective business operations.

Key Responsibilities of Role

Techno-Commercial Management - Lead and manage end-to-end techno-commercial activities for power generation operations.

- Evaluate commercial viability of fuel procurement, logistics, and operational initiatives.
- Analyze operational and commercial data to drive cost optimization and efficiency improvements.
- Prepare business cases, feasibility studies, and investment proposals for management review.
- Monitor generation costs and identify opportunities for performance enhancement.

Fuel Procurement & Supply Chain - Manage coal procurement, linkage coal allocation, imported coal sourcing, and alternate fuel evaluation.

- Coordinate with fuel suppliers, logistics partners, ports, railways, and regulatory agencies.
- Ensure uninterrupted fuel availability while optimizing procurement costs.
- Evaluate fuel pricing trends and recommend sourcing strategies.

Contract & Commercial Management - Lead commercial negotiations with vendors, suppliers, transporters, and service providers.

- Draft, review, and administer techno-commercial contracts, agreements, and purchase orders.
- Monitor contract compliance, claims management, and dispute resolution activities.




- Ensure commercial risk mitigation through effective contract governance.

Regulatory & Compliance Management - Liaise with regulatory authorities, government agencies, and industry stakeholders.

- Ensure compliance with CERC, SERC, Ministry of Power, Coal India, Railways, and environmental regulations.
- Support tariff petitions, regulatory filings, and commercial submissions.
- Track regulatory developments and assess business impact.

Financial Planning & Cost Optimization - Prepare annual budgets, business plans, and operating forecasts.

- Monitor commercial performance against approved budgets and targets.
- Identify cost-saving opportunities across procurement, logistics, and operational functions.
- Drive initiatives to enhance profitability and operational efficiency.

Stakeholder Management - Collaborate with Operations, Finance, Procurement, Fuel Management, Legal, and Corporate Commercial teams.

- Maintain solid relationships with external stakeholders, including suppliers, government agencies, consultants, and customers.
- Present commercial insights and strategic recommendations to senior leadership.

Team Leadership - Lead and mentor techno-commercial professionals across the department.

- Establish performance objectives and ensure capability development of team members.
- Drive a culture of accountability, compliance, and continuous improvement.

Qualifications and Experience

- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (Mechanical / Electrical / Chemical / Power Engineering).
- MBA/PGDM in Finance, Operations, Supply Chain, Energy Management, or Marketing preferred.
