Role Summary The Assistant Manager, Production supports the Production Manager in planning, running, and improving daily fabrication operations. The role ensures that windows are produced on time, to specification, within cost, and with minimal wastage, while keeping the shop floor safe and disciplined.

Key Responsibilities

Production planning and execution

- Convert confirmed orders and project schedules into daily and weekly production plans.
- Allocate work across cutting, welding, cleaning, hardware fitting, glazing, and packing stations.
- Track job progress against dispatch dates and escalate delays early.
- Coordinate with the Design/Estimation team to review shop drawings, cutting lists, and BOMs before release.

Quality control

- Ensure fabricated units meet drawing dimensions, tolerances, weld quality, and finish standards.
- Oversee in-process and final inspection (diagonals, squareness, weld strength, hardware operation, glass fit).
- Investigate rejections and rework, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions.

Material and inventory management

- Work with Stores and Purchase to ensure profiles, reinforcement, hardware, gaskets, and glass are available when needed.
- Optimise profile cutting to reduce offcuts and scrap, and track material consumption against standards.
- Verify incoming material quality and flag defects to Purchase.

Machine and maintenance management

- Ensure machines (cutting saws, welding machines, corner cleaners, routers, drilling and milling machines) are used correctly and kept in working order.
- Coordinate preventive maintenance and minimise breakdown downtime.
- Verify tool, blade, and die changeovers and calibration.

Manpower management

- Supervise supervisors, fabricators, fitters, and helpers, and assign daily targets.
- Track attendance,



overtime, and productivity, and support skill development and on-the-job training.
- Maintain discipline and a positive shop floor culture.

Safety, compliance, and housekeeping

- Enforce safety practices, PPE use, and machine safeguarding.
- Maintain 5S standards and a clean, organised production area.
- Support statutory and internal audit requirements.

Reporting and continuous improvement

- Prepare daily production reports, MIS, and dispatch status for management.
- Track KPIs such as output, efficiency, rework, and wastage.
- Suggest and implement improvements to layout, workflow, and cycle time.

Coordination

- Liaise with Sales, Projects, Site Installation, Logistics, and Stores to align production with site requirements.
- Address site feedback related to fabrication defects and prevent recurrence.

Qualifications and Experience

- Diploma or B.E./B.Tech in Mechanical, Production, or Industrial Engineering (or equivalent).
- 7-10 years of experience in production, preferably 4+ years in a supervisory role in window and door fabrication (uPVC or aluminium), or a related profile or fabrication industry.

Skills and Competencies

- Robust knowledge of window fabrication processes, profiles, hardware, and glazing.
- Ability to read and interpret shop drawings and cutting lists.
- Hands-on understanding of fabrication machinery and tolerances.
- Working knowledge of production planning, lean practices, and 5S.
- Proficiency in MS Excel and ERP or production software.
- Good leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work under deadlines and manage multiple orders.

- On-time production and dispatch percentage
- First-pass quality rate and rework or rejection percentage
- Material wastage and offcut percentage
- Machine uptime
- Productivity per man-hour
- Safety incidents (target: zero)

Working Conditions

- Factory-based role with extended time on the shop floor.
- May require occasional extended hours during peak project periods.
