Job title: Android Developer
Location: Pune, Maharashtra, India · In office · Full-time · Mid-Senior level
QWR Interactive Solutions designs and manufactures head-worn computing devices. Our XR headsets and smart glasses are Android-based, and we have shipped over 50,000 devices across 17 countries. We also build HUMBL, a voice-native AI app.
About the role
We are looking for an Android developer with 2 to 5 years of experience, to work on software that runs on hardware we build ourselves.
Android here is not an app on someone else's phone. It is the operating environment of the product, and it ships in the box. The role spans system-level work on the device itself and application-level work on the apps that run on it.
Key Responsibilities
Build and maintain system applications for our Android-based XR headsets and smart glasses, including the launcher, settings and device services.
Work with hardware and firmware on device bring-up, sensor integration, display and audio paths, and power behaviour.
Support AOSP customisation, system image builds and over-the-air update flows.
Debug across the boundary between application, framework and hardware, using ADB, logcat, systrace and device logs.
Build and maintain native Android applications for our devices, in Kotlin and Java.
Contribute to the Android build of HUMBL, including audio capture, background services, notifications and permissions.
Integrate APIs and SDKs, including speech, AI and analytics services.
Work with design to build interfaces that function on a head-worn display rather than a phone screen.
Write testable code, maintain unit and instrumentation tests, and work with QA on device test matrices.
Own your releases through to the Play Store or the device OTA channel.
Profile and fix performance, memory, thermal and battery issues,
which matter far more on a head-worn device than on a phone.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related field, or equivalent demonstrable experience.
2 to 5 years of Android development with apps that shipped to real users.
Strong Kotlin and working Java. Comfortable in Android Studio and with Gradle.
Solid grasp of the Android framework: lifecycle, services, background execution limits, permissions and Jetpack.
Experience debugging with ADB, logcat and profiling tools.
Comfortable working with physical devices rather than only emulators.
Version control discipline with Git, and the ability to review someone else's code usefully.
Willingness to work close to hardware. This role involves sitting in the lab with devices, not only at a desk.
Nice to Have
AOSP or custom ROM experience.
NDK and C++.
XR, AR or VR development, including OpenXR or Unity.
Audio pipelines and low-latency capture.
Flutter, or Bluetooth and BLE connectivity work.
CI/CD with GitHub Actions or Fastlane.
Why QWR
Write software for hardware built in the same building. Walk from your desk to the production line.
Work across the full stack of a device, from AOSP up to the app layer. Rare outside the largest OEMs.
Ship into a category still being defined rather than maintaining someone else's legacy app.
Hiring Process
CV screening, a call with the hiring manager, a technical discussion on your previous work, and a short practical exercise. We share feedback within 48 hours of every stage.
How to Apply
Apply here on LinkedIn, or send your CV to
