Job Summary
We are looking for a responsible, detail-oriented, and experienced Accountant to manage the school's day-to-day accounting and financial activities. The candidate will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, processing transactions, assisting with fee and payroll-related accounting, reconciliations, statutory compliance, and supporting the school management in financial reporting.
The ideal candidate should have prior experience in an educational institution/school environment and should be familiar with school-related accounting processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date books of accounts and financial records of the school.
- Record and verify daily financial transactions, including receipts, payments, purchases, expenses, and journal entries.
- Maintain and reconcile cash book, bank book, ledgers, and other accounting records.
- Prepare and verify payment vouchers, receipts, invoices, debit/credit notes, and journal vouchers.
- Perform regular bank reconciliations and investigate discrepancies.
- Assist in the accounting and reconciliation of student fee collections and other school receipts.
- Coordinate with the Fee/Front Office team regarding fee-related records and outstanding amounts, wherever required.
- Maintain records relating to vendor payments, purchase invoices, and expenses.
- Verify supporting documents and approvals before processing payments.
- Process salary-related accounting entries and coordinate with HR for payroll information and deductions.
- Assist in maintaining records relating to PF, ESI, TDS, GST, professional tax, and other applicable statutory requirements, as applicable to the organisation.
- Prepare and maintain schedules for receivables, payables, advances, expenses, and other accounting heads.
- Assist in preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports.
- Support the preparation of budgets, expenditure statements, MIS reports, and management reports.
- Monitor outstanding payments and follow up with relevant departments or vendors.
- Maintain proper documentation and filing of financial records for audit and statutory requirements.
- Coordinate with internal and external auditors and provide required documents and supporting records.
- Ensure accounting records are maintained in accordance with applicable accounting principles and organisational policies.
- Maintain confidentiality of financial, employee, student, and institutional information.
- Coordinate with the HR, Administration, Procurement, Fee, and Management teams for finance-related matters.
- Assist in identifying accounting discrepancies and resolving them in a timely manner.
- Perform any other finance and accounting responsibilities assigned by the Accounts Head/Management.
School-Specific Responsibilities The candidate should be comfortable handling accounting processes related to:
- Student fee collection and reconciliation
- Fee refunds and adjustments
- School expenses and operational payments
- Vendor and supplier payments
- Salary and payroll-related accounting
- Transport-related collections/expenses, where applicable
- School events and activity-related expenses
- Purchase and inventory-related accounting
- Employee advances and reimbursements
- Bank transactions and reconciliation
- Audit documentation
- Management MIS and financial reporting
Required Skills
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles and bookkeeping.
- Good understanding of financial documentation and reconciliations.
- Strong numerical and analytical skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
- Good knowledge of Tally ERP/Tally Prime.
- Proficiency in MS Excel, including formulas, sorting, filtering, and reconciliation.
- Knowledge of GST, TDS, PF, ESI, and other applicable statutory compliances.
- Strong organisational and time-management skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of financial information.
- Valuable communication and coordination skills.
- Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
Educational Qualification
- B.Com / M.Com or equivalent qualification in Commerce/Accounting.
- Relevant certification in accounting or taxation will be an added advantage.
Experience
- 4–5 years of relevant experience in accounting and finance.
- Prior experience in a school or educational institution will be preferred.
- Experience with school fee accounting, payroll coordination, vendor payments, and audit documentation will be an added advantage.
The ideal candidate should be honest, organised, financially disciplined, detail-oriented, and proficient in accounting software and Excel. Prior experience in a school environment will be highly relevant, particularly where the candidate has handled fee accounting, school expenses, payroll coordination, vendor payments, reconciliations, and audit-related documentation. Pay: From ₹30,000.00 per month
