Technical Designer – Exhibitions & Events (Contract)

Our client, an international exhibition and experiential design company, is hiring a contract Technical Designer.

You'll turn creative concepts into build-ready technical packages for large-scale exhibition stands and custom builds at international trade shows.

You'll be the bridge between the creative team's vision and the workshops, contractors and build crews who bring it to life. That means working out exactly how each design gets built, making sure it meets venue regulations wherever it's going, and supporting it through to show opening.

What you'll do

- Develop full technical drawing packages from approved creative concepts: plans, elevations, sections, construction details and material specifications
- Prepare structural detailing for exhibition stands, custom builds and feature areas
- Make sure every design complies with venue regulations and local safety standards
- Create accurate 2D and 3D models and render-ready layouts, plus production files for CNC, fabrication and print
- Specify materials, finishes and construction methods, and review and approve fabricators' shop drawings
- Work with production teams, contractors and suppliers to confirm feasibility, and resolve technical issues during pre-production and build
- Partner with Creative Designers to protect design intent
- Work with Project Managers to keep solutions on budget and on schedule,



including value engineering without compromising quality
- Coordinate with global partners and local build teams, and provide on-site support at domestic and international builds when required

What you'll bring

- 3+ years in technical design for exhibitions, events, experiential or retail environments, including technical packages for large-scale exhibition builds
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and SketchUp (essential)
- Experience preparing files for CNC, fabrication and print production
- An understanding of structural calculations and load considerations
- Knowledge of international exhibition and modular build systems (e.g., Octanorm, Syma, Aluvision, beMatrix)
- Knowledge of theatrical lighting systems and power requirements
- Experience working with international venues and their regulations
- Sharp attention to detail and strong problem-solving
- The ability to juggle multiple projects against fixed show deadlines
- Explicit communication across multicultural teams, and flexibility when requirements change
- Willingness to travel internationally for site surveys, build supervision and show launches

Nice to have

- Working knowledge of Vectorworks
- Projection experience, and familiarity with AV and digital integration in exhibition environments
- Experience with global trade shows
- Knowledge of sustainable materials and environmentally responsible design
- A degree or diploma in Technical Design, Industrial Design, Architecture or a related field
