The Caravan is published by the Delhi Press Group, one of India’s leading publishers. Started in 1939, Delhi Press today publishes 33 magazines in 10 languages.

Role Description

We are looking for a Part time Editorial Designer to work with the design and editorial teams producing The Caravan’s Hindi edition.

This is an ongoing position with a regular monthly production cycle. The designer will work for approximately two weeks every month, six days a week, during the Hindi edition's production period.

The role is primarily focused on editorial design, page layout and production. The designer will work within the established visual language of Caravan Hindi, while responding to the requirements of individual stories and maintaining a high standard of typography, visual hierarchy and print production.

Roles and Responsibilities

Working with the design and editorial teams to design layouts for long-form stories, essays, interviews, reviews and other editorial content in Caravan Hindi.

Working with Hindi/Devanagari typography, including long-form text,



headlines, captions, pull quotes and other editorial elements.

Developing page compositions that respond to the content, photography, illustration and visual requirements of individual stories.

Applying established grids, typography and visual systems consistently across the magazine.

Working with photographs and illustrations, placement, cropping and basic image adjustments.

Making revisions and corrections in response to editorial and design feedback, often within tight production deadlines.

Preparing final layouts and print-ready files and carrying out detailed checks for typographical, visual and technical errors.

Working closely with the Creative Director and The Caravan team throughout the production process.

Key Skills

High proficiency in Adobe InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator.

Strong understanding of editorial design, typography, grids and visual hierarchy.

Demonstrable experience designing magazine, newspaper, book or other publication layouts.

Strong working knowledge of Hindi/Devanagari typography and typesetting.

Ability to design engaging layouts for long-form text and image-based stories.

Good understanding of print production and prepress.

Keen attention to detail and accuracy.





Ability to work quickly and efficiently within a deadline-driven editorial environment.

Ability to take direction, respond to feedback and work collaboratively with an editorial and design team.

Additional Skills Sought

Experience working on Hindi or multilingual publications.

Experience with illustration or image-making.

Familiarity with digital and web-based editorial design.

Experience working within an established publication design system.

Requirements The Caravan’s office is a small shop and requires team players with a willingness to be flexible and collaborate closely with the editorial and design teams.

This is an ongoing part-time position, with a regular commitment of approximately two weeks per month, six days a week. The production schedule may occasionally require flexibility around deadlines, including longer hours during the final stages of production.
