Role Description This is a full-time remote Designer role supporting a range of residential, commercial, and maintenance projects. The Designer will create and refine concept drawings, detailed plans, and visual presentations that align with building standards, client requirements, and Retro Construction’s quality expectations. Day-to-day tasks include collaborating with estimators and project managers, translating project briefs into clear design solutions, and coordinating design revisions based on stakeholder feedback.





The role involves preparing documentation suitable for consent and compliance, ensuring designs are practical, buildable, and future-proofed. The Designer will also contribute to continuous improvement of design processes, digital templates, and standard details to support effective project delivery.

Qualifications

- Strong design skills for residential and commercial building projects, including conceptual design and detailed planning.
- Proficiency with relevant design and drafting software (e.g., CAD tools, BIM platforms, and standard design applications).
- Knowledge of building codes, construction methods, and compliance requirements, preferably within New Zealand.
- Ability to interpret technical documentation, specifications, and project briefs, and translate them into clear design outputs.
- Effective collaboration and communication skills for working with remote teams, clients, and contractors.
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a remote environment.
- Relevant qualification in architecture, interior design, building design, or a related field; equivalent practical experience will be considered.
- Experience in construction, reclads, renovations, or commercial builds is beneficial, as is familiarity with health and safety and quality assurance practices.
