: Buyer – Defence Projects

Key Responsibilities

- Manage the complete Purchase Requisition (PR) to Purchase Order (PO) cycle in SAP, ensuring accurate and timely release of POs against project requirements.
- Source and procure mechanical and electrical components for power pack and DG set.
- Identify, evaluate, and develop new vendors; negotiate commercial terms, pricing, and delivery schedules to support cost and timeline targets.
- Track open PRs/POs, monitor shortages, and proactively expedite deliveries to avoid production delays across multiple concurrent projects.
- Coordinate with vendors for test certificates, inspection clearances, datasheets, and quality compliance prior to dispatch.
- Coordination with planning, manufacturing, and quality teams to align procurement with production schedules and project milestones.
- Maintain and update procurement trackers and prepare periodic MIS reports for management review.
- Coordinate with stores and inventory teams on stock availability, GRN processing, and material reconciliation.
- Follow up on commercial matters such as payment terms and vendor claims in coordination with the finance team.
- Ensure procurement activities comply with applicable defence procurement guidelines and internal quality standards.

Requirements

- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering/Mechanical Engineering.
- 4–6 years of relevant experience in project buying, SITC jobs, preferably within the defence, capital equipment, power generation, or heavy engineering sector.
- Hands-on working knowledge of SAP MM is essential.




- Working knowledge of electrical components preferred.
- Solid vendor management and negotiation skill.
- Excellent coordination and communication skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and tight timelines simultaneously.
- Proficiency in MS Excel for tracking and reporting.

Work Experience

Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering.

4 to 6 years of experience in Project Procurement / Project Buying.

Experience in Defence, Power Generation, Capital Equipment, Heavy Engineering, or SITC projects preferred.

Hands-on experience in managing the complete PR-to-PO cycle.

Strong working knowledge of SAP MM module.

Experience in procurement of mechanical and electrical components.

Knowledge of DG Sets, Power Packs, Engines, Alternators, Switchgear, Cables, and related equipment.

Proven expertise in vendor sourcing, evaluation, and development.

Strong commercial negotiation and cost optimization skills.

Experience in supplier follow-up, expediting, and delivery management.

Ability to manage multiple projects and meet critical timelines.

Experience in coordinating with Planning, Manufacturing, Quality, Stores, and Finance teams.

Knowledge of inspection processes, test certificates, and quality documentation.

Understanding of inventory management, GRN processing, and material reconciliation.

Proficiency in MS Excel for MIS reporting, trackers, and data analysis.

Strong analytical, communication, and stakeholder management skills.

Familiarity with defence procurement guidelines and quality standards is an added advantage.
