Summary:
The Senior Accountant will be part of Grant Thornton UAE's Finance team and will operate as an offshore finance resource supporting core Accounts Payable activities, month-end close processes, reconciliations, and finance operations. The role is designed to strengthen processing discipline, improve turnaround times, support audit-ready documentation, and create a scalable offshore finance capability that can expand over time as the firm's operational requirements grow. This role is intended to form the foundation for a scalable offshore finance support model. As processes stabilise, the Senior Accountant may take on responsibility for training junior offshore resources, documenting standard operating procedures, monitoring service levels, and supporting the transition of additional transactional finance activities offshore. The long-term objective is to build a reliable, well-controlled, and cost-effective offshore finance capability that complements the onshore team while maintaining Grant Thornton's quality, responsiveness, and control standards.
Responsibilities:
The Senior Accountant will be expected to operate with discipline, responsiveness, and a strong control mindset. The role requires close coordination with the UAE-based finance team, timely escalation of issues, and a proactive approach to improving AP and month-end processes. The individual should be comfortable working in a professional services environment where deadlines, confidentiality, accuracy, and stakeholder service are critical.
- Process vendor invoices accurately and in line with internal approval workflows, delegated authority limits, tax requirements, and finance policies.
- Support the Accounts Payable cycle, including invoice booking, payment preparation, vendor statement reconciliations, ageing review, and follow-up on outstanding items.
- Maintain complete and audit-ready supporting documentation for invoices, purchase orders, approvals, contracts, payment evidence, and reconciliations.
- Assist with month-end close activities, including accruals, prepayments, expense analysis, bank reconciliations, intercompany reconciliations, and general ledger review.
- Prepare and maintain balance sheet reconciliations, ensuring reconciling items are clearly explained, supported, and resolved on a timely basis.
- Support cost analysis and expense coding across business units, departments, and projects to improve accuracy of management reporting.
- Coordinate with onshore finance colleagues, engagement teams, vendors, and internal stakeholders to resolve invoice queries and payment-related matters.
- Assist with VAT, corporate tax, audit, and statutory information requests by collating schedules, supporting documents, and transaction-level evidence.
- Contribute to process improvements, standard operating procedures, checklists, and automation opportunities within AP and month-end processes.
- Provide support for ad hoc finance activities, reporting packs,
data clean-up, and system implementation or enhancement projects as required.
Education / Professional Experience/ Qualifications/Skills:
- High attention to detail with the ability to identify errors, inconsistencies, and control gaps.
- Strong ownership mindset and ability to manage recurring deadlines with limited supervision.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills, with the confidence to follow up professionally with stakeholders.
- Positive problem-solving skills and a practical approach to resolving transaction, reconciliation, and process issues.
- Ability to work across time zones and maintain service discipline in an offshore support model.
- Commitment to confidentiality, data integrity, and compliance with internal policies.
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, commerce, or a related discipline.
- Professional qualification such as ACCA, CPA, CA, CMA, or equivalent is preferred.
- Minimum 4 to 6 years of relevant finance and accounting experience, ideally within a professional services, audit, accounting, or consulting environment.
- Strong hands-on experience in Accounts Payable, month-end close, reconciliations, general ledger accounting, and financial reporting support.
- Good understanding of accounting principles, internal controls, documentation standards, and statutory compliance requirements.
- Experience working with ERP systems and finance workflow tools; strong Microsoft Excel capability is essential.
- Experience supporting offshore, shared services, or distributed finance teams would be an advantage.
