About The Role

L&T-MHI; Turbine Generators Pvt. Ltd. (LMTG), a joint venture between Larsen & Toubro and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, is seeking a highly motivated Costing Estimator (Mechanical Engineer) to support its Steam Turbine and Generator business for current projects as well as after sales business.

The role is responsible for preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates for Thermal and Nuclear Power Projects, for Steam Turbine Generators & Auxiliaries, Renovation & Modernization (R&M;), Life Extension, and After-Sales Service opportunities.

The position offers an opportunity to work closely with engineering, manufacturing, procurement, project management teams, and global technology partners to develop winning proposals while ensuring project profitability.

Key Responsibilities

- Cost Estimation & Proposal Development
- Develop comprehensive cost estimates for Steam Turbines, Generators and associated auxiliary systems.
- Review RFQs, technical specifications, BOQs, tender documents, and contractual requirements to establish complete scope definitions.
- Prepare detailed cost build-ups covering engineering, materials, manufacturing, testing, logistics, supervision, commissioning, and warranty obligations.
- Support techno-commercial proposal preparation and management approval processes.
- Interface with Other depts for necessary inputs for cost estimation.
- Analysis of Alternate & combinations for developing proposal strategies.
- Manufacturing Cost Analysis




- Estimate manufacturing costs for critical turbine and generator components including rotors, casings, blades, diaphragms, bearings, stator and rotor assemblies.
- Analyse costs associated with raw materials, forgings, castings, fabrication, machining, welding, assembly, balancing, testing, painting, packing, and dispatch.
- Evaluate labour hours, machine utilization, productivity factors, manufacturing overheads, and factory costs.
- Supply Chain & Vendor Costing
- Obtain and evaluate quotations from domestic and international suppliers through concerned departments
- Assess imported content and identify localization opportunities to improve competitiveness.
- Coordinate with Procurement and Supply Chain teams for supplier development and cost optimization initiatives.
- Monitor market trends for steel, copper, alloy materials, forgings, castings, and critical bought-out components.
- Techno-Commercial Evaluation
- Review engineering drawings, datasheets, manufacturing specifications, and project requirements.
- Assess technical deviations and their commercial impact.
- Support value engineering and cost optimization studies.
- Support in make-versus-buy evaluations and product cost benchmarking.
- Risk Assessment & Competitiveness Enhancement
- Perform risk analysis as and when necessary
- Analyse technical,



commercial, manufacturing, schedule, and supply chain risks.
- Develop contingency provisions and risk mitigation strategies.
- Support bid strategy development through competitive analysis and historical project benchmarking.
- Identify opportunities for margin enhancement while maintaining bid competitiveness.

Qualification & Experience

Education

- Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering.
- Postgraduate qualification in Operations, Finance, or Business Management will be an added advantage.

Experience

- 5-10 years of relevant experience in Cost Estimation, Proposal Engineering, Manufacturing Costing in Steam Turbine or Power Equipment Industry.

Desired Technical Competencies

- Strong understanding of Steam Turbine Generator (STG) and BTG systems.
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes including machining, fabrication, welding, assembly, balancing, and testing.
- Familiarity with Thermal and Nuclear Power Plant equipment.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, technical specifications, and manufacturing documentation.
- Understanding of cost modelling, value engineering, localization, and commercial evaluation methodologies.
