The Registrar / Junior Anaesthetist is responsible for providing safe and effective anaesthesia care to patients under the supervision of Consultant Anaesthetists. The role includes pre-operative assessment, peri-operative anaesthetic management, post-operative care, emergency airway management, and participation in critical care and resuscitation services as required.

Key Responsibilities

- Conduct pre-anaesthetic evaluation of patients, including medical history, physical examination, review of investigations, and assessment of anaesthetic risk.
- Assist in preparing patients for general, regional, and local anaesthesia procedures.
- Administer anaesthesia under appropriate supervision and according to hospital protocols.
- Monitor patients' airway, breathing, circulation, oxygenation, ventilation, and haemodynamic status during procedures.
- Perform or assist with airway procedures, including bag-mask ventilation, endotracheal intubation, and supraglottic airway placement as appropriate to training and competence.
- Assist with regional anaesthesia and nerve blocks where trained and authorised.
- Manage intra-operative complications and promptly escalate serious or unexpected events to the Consultant Anaesthetist.
- Provide post-operative monitoring and pain management, including assessment in the recovery area.
- Participate in emergency and resuscitation services, including management of critically ill patients and cardiac arrest according to hospital protocols.
- Assist with anaesthesia services for emergency surgeries, obstetric procedures, trauma, and other high-risk cases, as applicable.
- Provide support in ICU/critical care areas when required and within the scope of training.
- Maintain accurate and complete anaesthesia records, patient notes, drug charts, consent documentation, and clinical reports.
- Ensure appropriate checking and preparation of anaesthesia machines, airway equipment, monitoring equipment, drugs, and emergency equipment.
- Follow infection-control, patient-safety, medication-safety,



and hospital policies.
- Participate in clinical audits, morbidity and mortality meetings, teaching, training, and continuing medical education.
- Communicate effectively with surgeons, nursing staff, ICU teams, emergency teams, patients, and relatives.
- Maintain professional confidentiality and adhere to applicable medical ethics and regulatory requirements.
- Participate in on-call, night, weekend, and emergency duties as per the hospital roster.

Qualifications

- MBBS from a recognised medical institution.
- Postgraduate qualification/training in Anaesthesiology such as MD/DNB/DA or equivalent, depending on the hospital's requirements and the designation offered.
- Valid medical registration with the relevant State Medical Council/National Medical Commission, as applicable.
- Current BLS/ACLS certification is desirable.

Experience

- Fresher / Experienced
- Previous experience in operation theatre, emergency medicine, ICU, or anaesthesia is desirable.
- Experience with airway management, regional anaesthesia, and peri-operative patient management is advantageous.
