Qualification: B.Sc Nursing / GNM
Experience: 5–8 years of experience in Labour Room / LDR, with relevant supervisory experience preferred
Registration: Valid Tamil Nadu Nursing Council registration mandatory
Job Overview
We are looking for an experienced and responsible LDR In-Charge to oversee the smooth functioning of the Labour & Delivery Room, ensuring safe, efficient and quality care for mothers and newborns. The role involves clinical supervision, team management, coordination with doctors and nursing teams, and ensuring compliance with hospital protocols.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical & Patient Care
- Supervise and coordinate the overall functioning of the LDR.
- Ensure quality nursing care for antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal patients.
- Monitor patients during all stages of labour and ensure timely escalation of abnormal findings.
- Assist doctors during normal and high-risk deliveries, emergency procedures and obstetric interventions.
- Ensure proper monitoring and documentation of maternal and fetal parameters.
- Ensure timely administration of medications, IV fluids, investigations and treatments as prescribed.
- Ensure availability and readiness of emergency equipment, drugs and delivery-related supplies.
- Coordinate with the NICU/PICU team for newborn care and emergencies.
- Ensure strict adherence to infection prevention and control practices.
Team Management
- Supervise, guide and support LDR nursing staff.
- Prepare and monitor duty rosters based on patient workload and staffing requirements.
- Allocate duties effectively and ensure adequate staffing in the LDR.
- Monitor staff performance, attendance, discipline and adherence to hospital policies.
- Conduct regular briefings and handovers to ensure continuity of patient care.
- Identify training needs and support in-service training for nursing staff.
Quality & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with hospital SOPs, clinical protocols and Labour Room guidelines.
- Maintain accurate patient records, registers and clinical documentation.
- Participate in nursing audits, clinical audits and quality improvement initiatives.
- Ensure compliance with NABH standards, patient safety requirements and infection control protocols.
- Monitor medication, equipment and emergency trolley checks.
- Ensure proper documentation of incidents, near misses and medico-legal cases and escalate them appropriately.
- Maintain confidentiality of patient and hospital information.
Coordination
- Coordinate effectively with Obstetricians, Paediatricians, Anaesthetists, Nursing Superintendent and other departments.
- Ensure smooth coordination between LDR, OT, NICU, Ward, Pharmacy and Laboratory.
- Escalate critical clinical and operational issues to the Nursing Superintendent/Management.
- Support patient and family communication during labour and delivery as required.
Key Skills & Competencies
- Strong knowledge of Labour Room and obstetric nursing practices.

Eligibility
- B.Sc Nursing / GNM from a recognized institution.
- Valid Tamil Nadu Nursing Council registration.
- 5–8 years of relevant experience in Labour Room/LDR.
- Supervisory or In-Charge experience will be an added advantage.
- Candidates with experience in maternity hospitals / women & child healthcare will be preferred.
