Job Description: Manager – Production Planning & Inventory Management

About the Role

We are looking for an experienced Production Planning & Inventory Management professional from the manufacturing industry to manage production planning, machine loading, inventory control, and on-time delivery. The candidate will be responsible for ensuring smooth plant operations, optimizing production efficiency, and coordinating with sales, production, quality, and logistics teams.

Key Responsibilities

Production Planning & Scheduling

- Prepare raw material requirement plans and production schedules based on sales forecasts.

- Develop section-wise weekly and monthly production plans.

- Schedule production using production planning tools.

- Calculate machine hours and manpower requirements.

- Prepare machine loading plans considering shop floor WIP.

- Monitor production plan adherence and follow up with production in-charges.

- Identify production constraints and implement corrective actions.

- Plan daily and monthly job orders for multiple OEM customer requirements and JIT supply.

Inventory & Material Management

- Ensure timely availability of raw materials for production and on-time delivery.

- Coordinate with raw material stores for smooth execution of production plans.

- Communicate material shortages to stores and the sales department.

- Manage STU item inventory and implement FIFO practices.

- Monitor reorder requirements and conduct root cause analysis (RCA).

- Implement JIT planning wherever required.

Production Efficiency & Process Improvement

- Analyze production performance against customer delivery index and planned efficiency.





- Conduct time studies, method studies, and line balancing for various models.

- Establish standard times for production activities.

- Monitor and improve line efficiency and productivity.

- Support productivity and quality improvement initiatives.

- Ensure adherence to production targets and optimize machine utilization.

Coordination & MIS Reporting

- Coordinate with Sales and Installation teams to communicate expected delivery dates (EDD).

- Reconfirm production orders and communicate delays to the Sales department.

- Prioritize customer urgencies on the shop floor and highlight them on batch sheets.

- Coordinate with the Quality Department for final QA output.

- Collaborate with Commercial, Production, Logistics, and InterPlant teams.

- Prepare and present MIS reports to top management.

- Support team building and employee development.

Required Qualifications & Skills

- B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering.

- 12–14 years of relevant experience.

- Manufacturing industry experience is mandatory.

- Robust experience in production planning, scheduling, and inventory management.

- Hands-on knowledge of machine loading and production planning.

- Experience in manpower planning, time study, and line balancing.

- Knowledge of engineering drawings and production processes.

- Strong understanding of JIT planning and on-time delivery.

- Good communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.

- Ability to coordinate with multiple departments and manage critical orders.
