A VMC (Vertical Machining Center) Operator Cum Programmer is responsible for operating CNC/VMC machines and preparing, editing, and proving CNC programs to manufacture precision components according to engineering drawings and quality requirements.

Roles and Responsibilities

- Set up and operate VMC/CNC machines for machining precision components.
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, GD&T;, and machining specifications.
- Prepare, modify, and optimize CNC programs using G-code/M-code.
- Develop programs using CAM software where required.
- Select appropriate cutting tools, inserts, holders, and work-holding fixtures.
- Set machine work offsets, tool offsets, tool length compensation, and wear offsets.
- Perform tool setting and workpiece alignment before machining.
- Conduct program proving, dry runs, single-block checks, and first-piece trials.
- Monitor machining operations and adjust feeds, speeds, offsets, and cutting parameters when necessary.
- Inspect components using Vernier calipers, micrometers, bore gauges, height gauges, and other measuring instruments.
- Ensure components meet specified dimensions, tolerances, surface-finish, and quality requirements.
- Identify and troubleshoot common machine, tooling, programming,



and dimensional problems.
- Minimize cycle time, tool consumption, scrap, and machine downtime through process improvements.

Required Skills

- Good knowledge of VMC machine operation and setup.
- Solid understanding of G-code and M-code programming.
- Ability to read engineering drawings and GD&T;.
- Knowledge of cutting speeds, feeds, depth of cut, tooling, and machining parameters.
- Experience with Fanuc/Mitsubishi/Siemens or other CNC controls is advantageous.
- Knowledge of CAM programming such as Mastercam, PowerMill, NX, SolidCAM, or similar software is an advantage.
- Ability to use precision measuring instruments.
- Basic knowledge of CNC troubleshooting and preventive maintenance.
- Understanding of quality control and inspection procedures.
- Ability to work independently and meet production targets.

Qualification & Experience

ITI / Diploma in Mechanical, Production, Manufacturing, or related discipline.

Typically 3–5 years of relevant VMC/CNC experience, depending on the level of the position.

Pay: ₹20,000.00 - ₹45,000.00 per month
