Job Description - Industrial Engineer (Luggage Manufacturing)

Job Title: Industrial Engineer

Experience: 2–5 years in luggage, bags, garments, or similar sewn-product manufacturing

Job Summary:

Responsible for analysing and improving manufacturing processes for soft luggage products such as trolley bags, backpacks, duffle bags, laptop bags, and travel bags. The role involves process engineering, line balancing, time study, costing, productivity improvement, manpower planning, capacity planning, and cost reduction.

Key Responsibilities:

- Conduct time studies, motion studies, and method studies for sewing, cutting, assembly, finishing, and packing operations.
- Develop SAM/SMV for new and existing products.
- Prepare product cost estimates for new and existing soft luggage styles.
- Calculate labor cost based on Standard Allowed Minute/Standard Minute Value (SAM/SMV), operator wages, and production efficiency.
- Calculate conversion cost including manpower, machine, overhead, and processing costs.
- Analyze material consumption and wastage for fabric, lining, foam, webbing, zippers, trims, accessories, and other components.
- Prepare operation breakdowns and process flow charts.
- Perform line balancing and optimize workstation layouts to improve productivity.
- Set production targets based on available manpower,



machine capacity, and working hours.
- Improve operator productivity, production capacity, and machine utilization.
- Analyze production losses, idle time, bottlenecks, and downtime.
- Coordinate with Production, Quality, Merchandising, Maintenance, and R&D; teams for new product development and production trials.
- Develop and maintain operation bulletins, machine layouts, capacity reports, IE & productivity reports, and IE standards.
- Support new style/product development by establishing the most productive manufacturing method.
- Conduct Kaizen, 5S, waste reduction, and continuous improvement activities.
- Monitor line efficiency, output, DHU (Defects per Hundred Units)/rejection, absenteeism, and productivity.
