JOB PURPOSE

To take complete ownership of the overall retail business by managing multiple organic grocery and FMCG retail outlets, driving sales and profitability, ensuring operational excellence, controlling inventory and expenses, developing retail teams, improving customer experience, and supporting business expansion.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Overall Retail Business Management

- Take complete responsibility for the performance of all retail outlets.
- Develop and implement strategies to improve sales, profitability, customer footfall, and repeat purchases.
- Set monthly, quarterly, and annual sales targets for each outlet.
- Monitor store-wise business performance and implement corrective actions.
- Ensure all stores achieve defined business and operational targets.
- Conduct regular business reviews with Store and Cluster Managers.

2. Store Operations

- Manage the overall day-to-day operations of all organic grocery stores.
- Ensure effective implementation of company SOPs across all outlets.
- Monitor store opening and closing, billing, cash handling, deposits, housekeeping, product display, and customer service.
- Conduct regular store visits and operational audits.
- Ensure coordination between Retail, Warehouse, Purchase, Accounts, HR, and Marketing teams.
- Identify operational gaps and ensure timely corrective action.

3. Sales & Revenue Growth

- Drive sales growth across all stores through effective retail strategies.
- Analyse daily, weekly, and monthly sales performance.
- Monitor sales per store, sales per employee, average bill value, customer footfall, and product-wise sales.
- Identify under performing stores and implement structured improvement plans.
- Develop strategies to increase repeat purchases and customer retention.
- Identify opportunities for cross-selling, up selling, and category growth.

4. Organic Grocery & FMCG Product Management

- Ensure availability of essential organic grocery and FMCG products.
- Monitor fast-moving, slow-moving, and non-moving products.
- Ensure proper product categorisation and shelf placement.
- Coordinate with Purchase and Warehouse teams for timely replenishment.
- Monitor product quality, packaging, batch details, MRP, and expiry dates.
- Ensure proper handling and display of organic and food products.

5. Inventory & Stock Control

- Ensure effective FIFO/FEFO implementation across all stores.
- Monitor stock shortages, excess stock, damages, expiry, wastage, and shrinkage.
- Review regular stock reconciliation and physical stock verification.
- Monitor stock transfers between stores and warehouse.
- Develop strategies to minimise inventory loss, expiry, and wastage.
- Maintain optimum stock levels based on store-wise sales movement.
- Ensure accurate stock records in POS/retail systems.

6. P&L; & Profitability Management

- Take responsibility for retail revenue, gross margin, operating expenses, and store profitability.
- Review store-wise P&L; and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Control unnecessary operational expenses.
- Monitor margins across product categories.




- Develop strategies to improve gross margin and overall profitability.
- Coordinate with Accounts & Finance for financial reporting and business reviews.

7. Team & Manpower Management

- Lead Store Managers, Cluster Managers, Store In-Charges, Billing Staff, Sales Staff, and other retail employees.
- Identify manpower requirements in coordination with HR.
- Define roles, responsibilities, targets, and KPIs for retail teams.
- Monitor employee productivity, attendance, discipline, and performance.
- Conduct regular performance reviews and provide feedback.
- Identify training requirements and improve product knowledge and customer-handling skills.
- Develop strong leadership and succession capabilities within the retail team.

8. Customer Experience

- Ensure consistent and high-quality customer service across all stores.
- Monitor customer complaints, feedback, and service quality.
- Develop initiatives to improve customer satisfaction and repeat purchases.
- Ensure employees have adequate knowledge of organic products, product benefits, pricing, and availability.
- Build strong relationships with regular and high-value customers.
- Monitor customer feedback and ensure timely resolution of complaints.

9. Merchandising & Store Presentation

- Ensure proper shelf arrangement, product visibility, and category-wise merchandising.
- Monitor visual merchandising and promotional displays.
- Ensure correct pricing labels and promotional communication.
- Maintain stores in a clean, organised, hygienic, and customer-friendly condition.
- Develop effective product placement strategies to improve sales and customer convenience.

10. Promotions & Marketing Coordination

- Coordinate with the Marketing team for store promotions, offers, campaigns, and events.
- Monitor the effectiveness of promotional activities.
- Develop local-store marketing initiatives to increase customer footfall.
- Support loyalty, membership, referral, and customer-retention programmes.
- Analyse promotional sales and customer response.

11. Procurement & Vendor Coordination

- Coordinate with Purchase and Procurement teams based on store requirements.
- Provide sales, stock movement, and demand inputs for purchasing decisions.
- Monitor vendor and product performance.
- Support negotiations related to pricing, margins, schemes, and commercial terms wherever required.
- Ensure availability of key products and minimise stock-out situations.

12. MIS & Business Reporting

Review and analyse daily, weekly, and monthly retail MIS covering:

- Store-wise sales
- Product-wise sales
- Gross margin
- Inventory and stock ageing
- Expiry and damage
- Customer complaints
- Manpower productivity
- Store expenses




- Stock availability
- Sales target achievement
- Store profitability

Present business performance, key observations, corrective actions, and action plans to Management.

13. Compliance & Store Controls

- Ensure compliance with applicable food safety, retail, statutory, and company requirements.
- Ensure proper maintenance of licences, certificates, records, and audit documents.
- Ensure proper billing and payment procedures.
- Monitor cash, card, UPI, and other payment reconciliation.
- Ensure adherence to company SOPs and internal control procedures.
- Conduct periodic audits of store processes and controls.

14. New Store Expansion

- Support Management in identifying potential new store locations.
- Analyse market potential, customer profile, competition, and expected sales.
- Support feasibility studies and business planning for new outlets.
- Assist in new-store setup, manpower planning, product planning, and operational readiness.
- Coordinate with relevant departments for timely store launch.
- Ensure smooth opening and stabilisation of new stores.

CANDIDATE PROFILE

- Graduate / MBA in Retail Management, Business Administration, Commerce, or a related field.
- Minimum 10+ years of experience in Retail / FMCG / Supermarket / Organic Grocery / Food Retail.
- Proven experience in managing multiple retail outlets.
- Strong experience in sales, store operations, inventory management, P&L;, and team management.
- Experience in managing Store Managers, Cluster Managers, and large retail teams will be preferred.
- Strong knowledge of FMCG and grocery product categories.
- Experience with POS / Retail Software and MIS reporting.
- Robust understanding of inventory control, FIFO/FEFO, stock reconciliation, and shrinkage control.
- Strong leadership, analytical, communication, negotiation, and decision-making skills.
- Ability to work with cross-functional teams and drive business targets.

KEY EXPECTATION

The General Manager – Retail will have end-to-end responsibility for retail business performance and will be expected to drive sales growth, profitability, operational excellence, inventory accuracy, product availability, expiry and wastage control, customer satisfaction, store discipline, and employee productivity across all outlets.

The role requires a strong business-oriented retail leader who can translate management objectives into measurable store-level results and build a scalable retail operation.

Pay: ₹50,000.00 - ₹100,000.00 per month
