ChartRequest moves health information between providers, requestors, and patients — faster, simpler, and more secure for everyone on both sides of the record. We're a HIPAA business associate serving 170,000+ connected providers, with zero reportable breaches since 2015 and SOC 2 Type 2 certification. Every record is reviewed by two trained specialists plus AI before it leaves our hands.

Position Summary

As the QA Engineer, you are not a manual test executor working through a ticket queue, you are the quality strategist and risk owner for everything your POD's developer (heavily aided by AI agents) ships. As agentic AI increasingly helps write both code and tests, your job shifts from “do the testing” to “decide what actually needs testing, verify that AI-authored tests prove what they claim, and be the person willing to say a release isn't ready”, especially for anything touching PHI, CareQuality data exchange, or RPA/API automations acting on real patient records.

You'll work as one-third of a small, self-contained delivery unit with no larger QA org to escalate into, which means your judgment, not your ticket throughput, is the job.

Key Responsibilities

Quality Strategy & Risk Ownership

- Define the test strategy and risk-based coverage plan for your POD's roadmap, deciding what must be tested exhaustively (PHI paths, automation logic, integration boundaries) versus what AI-generated tests can reasonably cover.
- Review and audit AI-generated/agent-authored test suites the way a senior engineer reviews a junior's code: check that they test the right thing, not just that they pass.
- Own the final quality gate for your POD, you have standing to block or delay a release when coverage, risk, or evidence isn't there, regardless of delivery pressure.

Agentic AI-Assisted Testing

- Use agentic AI tools to help generate, maintain, and triage automated test suites (unit, integration, end-to-end), while personally validating what they produce.
- Direct AI agents in exploratory and edge-case test design for HIPAA-sensitive flows,



RPA/API automation paths, and CareQuality integrations, then verify results for anything high-risk.
- Maintain and evolve test data, environments, and CI test pipelines, using automation and AI tooling to keep pace with a POD built to move faster than a traditional “1 QA per 5 developers” model.

Compliance & Traceability

- Maintain traceability from requirement → implementation → test evidence to support HIPAA audits and internal compliance reviews.
- Validate that PHI is handled correctly (access control, encryption, logging, data minimization) in every release your POD ships.
- Partner with the BA and Developer on acceptance criteria and a “definition of done” that reflects real compliance and safety requirements, not just functional pass/fail.

POD Collaboration

- Work as an equal, embedded partner in a three-person POD, shape requirements and design early, rather than inspecting finished work at the end.
- Communicate quality risk clearly and directly to both your POD and to leadership, in terms non-technical stakeholders can act on.

Required Skills & Experience

- 4+ years of QA/test engineering experience, with a track record of owning test strategy, not just executing test cases, for a production web application.
- Hands-on experience using AI tools to accelerate test authoring/maintenance (e.g., AI-assisted test generation, self-healing test frameworks, agentic QA copilots), paired with a healthy skepticism about verifying what they produce.
- Solid automated-testing background across the stack: API/integration testing, front-end (React) testing, and database-level validation against PostgreSQL.




- Working knowledge of testing Aptible & AWS-hosted applications (staging environments, CI/CD pipelines).
- Judgment to prioritize risk-based testing over 100%-coverage-for-its-own-sake, especially for compliance-critical paths.
- Experience with, or fast aptitude for, HIPAA/PHI compliance testing; healthcare, fintech, or other regulated-industry QA experience is a strong plus but not required.
- Comfortable being the one person accountable for quality on a small, fast-moving team, no larger QA org to lean on.
- Exposure to RPA testing or API/automation testing is a plus.

Our Tech Stack

- RSpec, Cypress/Playwright (or similar React-compatible E2E framework), PostgreSQL, Aptible, AWS-hosted CI/CD pipelines, AI-assisted testing tools, and the agentic AI tools used across the POD.
