Position Overview

We are looking for a Senior Hardware Design Engineer to take end-to-end ownership of the hardware design and development of embedded electronic products, including IoT/IIoT/AIoT gateways, industrial automation controllers, edge-compute nodes, and related embedded systems.

The role involves translating system-level requirements or functional block diagrams into production-ready, manufacturable, certifiable, and field-reliable hardware products.

You will work closely with Firmware, Embedded Software, Mechanical, Product Management, Quality, and Manufacturing teams across the complete product lifecycle — from architecture and schematic design through PCB layout, prototyping, validation, certification, and production handover.

Key Responsibilities1. Circuit Design & Schematic Development

- Own circuit design from concept through final schematic, including component selection, topology decisions, power, analog, digital, RF/wireless, and protection circuits.
- Develop detailed schematics and PCB footprints in accordance with Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Test (DFT) principles.
- Manage and maintain component libraries, including symbols, footprints, and 3D models.
- Perform worst-case analysis, thermal calculations, power-budget analysis, and signal/power integrity checks before layout release.
- Ensure appropriate design margins, reliability, and component derating throughout the design.

2. End-to-End Product Design & Cross-Functional Delivery
- Own end-to-end hardware product development starting from a system block diagram or functional requirement provided by Architecture, Product, or Firmware teams.
- Translate system requirements into a detailed hardware design plan covering:
- Architecture partitioning
- Interface definition
- Connector and pinout strategy
- Design standards and guidelines
- Hardware testing and validation SOPs
- Collaborate closely with Firmware, Embedded Software, Product Management, Mechanical, Quality, and Manufacturing teams.
- Balance hardware decisions against product requirements, cost targets, reliability, manufacturability, and development timelines.
- Drive BOM optimization with a focus on cost, lead time, second sourcing, component availability, and long-term product lifecycle requirements.

3. Embedded Product Design — IoT / IIoT / AIoT / Automation

Design embedded hardware for IoT/IIoT/AIoT gateways, edge-computing nodes, and industrial automation products, including:

- Processor, MCU, SoC, and/or SoM selection
- Wi-Fi and BLE
- Cellular connectivity
- LoRa
- Ethernet
- RS-485 / Modbus
- Sensor and actuator interfaces
- Digital and analog interfaces
- Industrial communication interfaces

Consider mechanical and installation requirements as an integral part of the hardware design, including:

- Enclosure and mounting requirements
- IP-rating considerations
- DIN-rail and panel mounting
- Connector placement
- Cable entry and routing

Design products for long-term, unattended field operation, including appropriate consideration of:

- Component derating
- Thermal management
- Surge and ESD protection
- EMI/EMC protection
- Watchdog mechanisms
- Firmware-assisted fail-safe hardware features

4. System & Functional Block Diagrams
- Generate high-level system and functional block diagrams from product/system requirements when not already available.
- Define hardware architecture and interfaces clearly enough to align Architecture, Firmware, Product, Mechanical, and other stakeholders before detailed design begins.

5. Testing, Validation, Compliance & Certification
- Define and execute comprehensive hardware test plans covering:
- Functional testing
- Performance testing
- Environmental testing
- Temperature and humidity testing
- Vibration testing
- EMC/EMI testing
- Safety testing
- Long-duration burn-in and life testing
- Identify applicable regulatory, safety, and product standards based on the target product and market, including relevant standards such as:
- CE
- FCC
- BIS/CDSCO
- IEC 61000
- IEC 60950 / IEC 62368
- UL
- RoHS / REACH
- Plan and execute pre-compliance testing and formal certification activities.
- Coordinate with external testing and certification laboratories.
- Own closure of non-conformances and issues identified during certification.
- Validate individual hardware components as well as integrated systems and final products against defined specifications.

6. Sustaining Engineering & Technical Support
- Analyze field and system data to identify opportunities for hardware configuration, design, and revision improvements.
- Perform Root Cause Analysis (RCA) for hardware failures and defects.
- Define and implement Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPA) to minimize recurrence.
- Provide technical support to Production, Field Service, and Customers for hardware-related issues.
- Support initial board bring-up, debugging, and low-level hardware validation.
- Work with cross-functional teams to resolve production and field issues efficiently.

7. Documentation & Engineering Processes
- Create and maintain comprehensive engineering documentation for components, subsystems, and complete products.
- Maintain:
- Design specifications
- Schematics
- BOMs

- Test plans and reports
- DFM documentation
- DFMEA records
- Certification documentation
- Hardware revision records
- Establish and follow structured hardware design and validation processes.
- Stay updated with emerging components, design tools, connectivity technologies, and embedded hardware trends, and evaluate their applicability to current and future products.

Required Skills & Experience
- 4–8+ years of relevant experience in hardware design and embedded electronics product development.
- Strong hands-on experience with Altium Designer and/or OrCAD, including:
- Schematic capture
- PCB design/layout
- Library management
- Footprint creation
- Familiarity with SPICE-based circuit simulation and/or signal/power integrity analysis tools.
- Demonstrated experience across the complete hardware product lifecycle:

Concept → Architecture → Schematic → PCB Layout → Prototype → Bring-up → Validation → DFM → EMC/Safety Pre-Compliance → Certification → Production Handover

- Strong fundamentals in:
- Analog electronics
- Digital electronics
- Power electronics
- Embedded processors
- Microcontrollers
- Hardware interfaces
- Experience designing hardware for IoT, IIoT, AIoT, industrial automation, or other embedded products.
- Robust understanding of connectivity and communication interfaces such as Wi-Fi, BLE, Cellular, LoRa, Ethernet, RS-485, and Modbus.
- Good understanding of EMC/EMI, ESD, surge protection, thermal management, and hardware reliability.
- Working knowledge of relevant EMC, safety, and product certification standards.
