We are looking for a skilled Design Engineer Mechanical for our Transformer Division, responsible for the mechanical design and development of Power Transformers, Dry-Type Transformers, and Locomotive Transformers and their associated components.

The candidate should have strong hands-on experience in transformer tank design, locomotive transformer tank design, transformer component design, 2D/3D modelling, fabrication drawings, and engineering documentation. The role requires close coordination with electrical design, manufacturing, production, fabrication, quality, and testing teams to ensure that designs are technically sound, manufacturable, and meet project requirements.

Key Responsibilities

- Design and develop mechanical components and assemblies for Power Transformers, Dry-Type Transformers, and Locomotive Transformers.
- Develop transformer tank designs, including locomotive transformer tank design, considering structural strength, dimensions, clearances, mounting arrangements, fabrication requirements, and service conditions.
- Prepare detailed 2D manufacturing/fabrication drawings and 3D models of transformer tanks, structures, enclosures, supports, brackets, covers, and other transformer components.
- Design transformer-related mechanical components as per technical specifications, customer requirements, applicable standards, and manufacturing practices.
- Perform basic mechanical design calculations related to strength, loading, dimensions, support arrangements, and structural requirements wherever required.
- Develop and modify designs based on engineering changes, manufacturing requirements, customer specifications, and design review feedback.
- Prepare assembly drawings, detailed part drawings, BOMs, and revision-controlled engineering documents.
- Ensure proper fitment,



dimensional accuracy, tolerances, clearances, and manufacturability of designed components.
- Coordinate with production, fabrication, procurement, quality, electrical design, and testing teams for smooth execution of transformer projects.
- Review shop-floor issues related to drawings and provide appropriate design modifications or technical solutions.
- Support prototype development, first-piece inspection, design validation, and resolution of design-related manufacturing issues.
- Maintain proper drawing standards, design records, revisions, and engineering documentation.
- Participate in design review meetings and support continuous improvement in transformer design, cost, manufacturability, and reliability.

Required Technical Skills

- Strong knowledge of Transformer Mechanical Design and Transformer Components.
- Hands-on experience in Power Transformer Design.
- Experience in Dry-Type Transformer Design.
- Experience in Locomotive Transformer Design will be preferable, particularly locomotive transformer tank design.
- Good knowledge of Transformer Tank Design and fabrication.
- Good understanding of transformer mechanical construction, components, assemblies, supports, enclosures, and mounting arrangements.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD 2D/3D.
- Hands-on experience with SolidWorks or Solid Edge for 3D modelling and design.
- Valuable knowledge of engineering drawings, GD&T;, dimensions, tolerances, and fabrication drawings.
- Ability to interpret technical specifications and convert requirements into practical mechanical designs.
- Knowledge of material selection, sheet-metal/fabrication practices, welding, machining, and manufacturing processes relevant to transformer components.
- Ability to troubleshoot drawing/design issues and provide practical engineering solutions.
