Roles and Responsibilities of a Kitchen Steward A kitchen steward is responsible for maintaining cleanliness, hygiene, and proper organization of the kitchen and its equipment.
Wash and clean utensils, plates, cutlery, pots, and pans.
Maintain cleanliness of kitchen floors, work surfaces, sinks, and equipment.
Assist chefs and kitchen staff with basic cleaning and support tasks.
Properly store and organize kitchen utensils and equipment.
Collect, separate, and dispose of food and kitchen waste according to hospital/restaurant procedures.
Follow food safety, hygiene, and sanitation standards.
Ensure cleaning chemicals are used and stored safely.
Help with loading, unloading, and arranging kitchen supplies.




Keep garbage bins clean and ensure timely disposal of waste.
Report damaged equipment, leaks, pest activity, or hygiene problems to the supervisor.
Maintain adequate supplies of cleaning materials.
Follow workplace health and safety procedures.
Support the kitchen team during busy meal-service periods.
