We are seeking a detail-oriented Annotator to support an innovative sustainability initiative focused on improving material recovery and recycling processes. In this role, you will contribute to the development of advanced machine learning models by accurately labeling, classifying, and segmenting images captured at material recycling facilities. Your work will help improve automated waste identification and sorting, contributing to more efficient recycling operations and broader environmental sustainability efforts.

Roles & Responsibilities

- Image Annotation: Perform accurate and high-quality image annotation in accordance with project-specific guidelines and quality standards.
- Material Classification: Identify and classify materials based on defined categories, including material type, form factor, color, and other relevant attributes.
- Recyclability Assessment: Evaluate objects and assign “Pass” or “Discard” classifications based on established recyclability criteria and facility-specific requirements.
- Instance Segmentation: Create precise polygon or mask annotations that closely follow the contours and boundaries of individual objects.
- Visual Attribute Identification: Accurately distinguish subtle differences in material characteristics, shapes, sizes, colors, and physical forms.
- Quality & Accuracy: Maintain high levels of annotation accuracy, consistency, and completeness to ensure reliable training data for machine learning models.
- Guideline Adherence: Consistently interpret and apply detailed annotation guidelines, including handling of complex or ambiguous cases.
- Quality Feedback: Identify recurring annotation challenges and escalate unclear cases for clarification or resolution.
- Productivity & Timeliness:



Meet defined productivity, quality, and turnaround-time targets while maintaining the required level of accuracy.
- Data Integrity: Ensure all annotations are complete, consistent, and aligned with project requirements to support effective model training and validation.

Key Qualifications & Skills

- Strong attention to detail with the ability to identify subtle differences in shape, color, form, and material characteristics.
- Prior experience in image annotation, data labeling, polygon annotation, instance segmentation, or data entry is preferred.
- Ability to accurately identify and classify objects within complex visual environments.
- Ability to understand, interpret, and consistently apply detailed project guidelines.
- Good visual judgment and strong focus on accuracy and consistency.
- Ability to work effectively in a target-driven environment while maintaining quality standards.
- Basic computer proficiency and familiarity with web-based annotation tools.
- Strong communication skills and willingness to seek clarification on ambiguous cases.
- Interest in sustainability, recycling, environmental impact, or emerging AI technologies is an advantage.
- Graduation in any discipline is preferred.

Work Schedule & Shift Overview

- Workplace Model: On-site at Virtusa Office
- Working Days: 5 days per week
- Working Hours: 9 hours per day
- Scheduling: Rotational shifts based on business and project requirements

Shift Windows

- Morning Shift: 5:00 AM – 2:00 PM / 6:00 AM – 3:00 PM
- Standard Shift: 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM / 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM
- Evening Shift: 1:00 PM – 10:00 PM / 2:00 PM – 11:00 PM

Note: Employees must be versatile to work across rotational shifts, including weekends and holidays, based on operational requirements
