The opportunity

We are looking for a hands-on, highly influential Staff Test Engineer to strengthen quality across LendingTrees product and engineering teams.

This is not a role focused only on executing test cases. You will shape how products are tested, automate critical customer journeys, improve release confidence, and help teams build quality into the product from the earliest design discussions.

You will work closely with Software Engineers, Product Managers, Designers, and fellow Quality Engineers to deliver reliable experiences for millions of consumers making important financial decisions.

What you will do

- Own and drive quality strategy across Agile product teams, from requirements refinement through production release.
- Review user stories, acceptance criteria, and technical designs to identify risks, gaps, edge cases, and testability concerns early.
- Develop risk-based test strategies for customer-facing products and complex lending marketplace workflows.
- Perform hands-on exploratory, functional, integration, regression, and release testing for critical product experiences.
- Design, build, and maintain scalable UI and API automation frameworks using modern engineering practices.
- Create reliable automated tests using Microsoft Playwright or comparable modern UI automation tools.




- Develop robust REST API test coverage and ensure appropriate validation across service and integration layers.
- Integrate automated test suites into Git-based CI/CD pipelines and improve test execution speed, reporting, and reliability.
- Investigate and reduce flaky tests, fixed waits, unstable test data, and inefficient automation patterns.
- Partner with Engineering and Product during backlog refinement, sprint planning, defect triage, and release decisions.
- Establish practical quality standards, test approaches, and quality gates that improve delivery without slowing teams down.
- Champion accessibility testing and help teams build inclusive customer experiences.
- Mentor developers and quality engineers on automation, exploratory testing, defect prevention, and quality engineering best practices.
- Evaluate new testing tools, AI-assisted engineering practices, and process improvements that increase quality and team productivity.

What we are looking for

- 8+ years of experience in Software Testing, QA, SDET, or Quality Engineering.
- 5+ years of hands-on experience designing and maintaining object-oriented test automation frameworks.
- Strong programming experience in C#/.NET or Java. Candidates with deep Java expertise and the ability to work with C# are encouraged to apply.
- Hands-on experience with Microsoft Playwright, Selenium, Cypress, or another modern UI automation framework.
- Strong experience in REST API testing and automation.
- Experience integrating automated test suites into Git-based CI/CD pipelines such as Jenkins, Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, or similar tools.
- Strong understanding of risk-based testing, exploratory testing, test design, defect prevention, and software development life cycles.
- Experience working with SQL and/or NoSQL databases.
- Ability to influence engineers, product partners,



and stakeholders through strong technical judgment and collaborative communication.
- A track record of mentoring others and raising quality standards across teams.
- Excellent problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.

Preferred qualifications

- Experience with Axe-core, WCAG 2.1, or accessibility testing.
- Experience in AWS or cloud-native environments.
- Experience supporting consumer-facing, financial services, marketplace, SaaS, e-commerce, or high-scale product platforms.
- Experience using AI-assisted engineering tools to improve test design, automation efficiency, or defect analysis.
