– X-Ray & CT TechnicianJob Summary The X-Ray & CT Technician is responsible for performing diagnostic radiographic and CT imaging procedures to support accurate diagnosis and treatment. The role involves patient preparation, imaging, equipment operation, radiation safety, image quality, documentation, and adherence to hospital and regulatory standards.
Key Responsibilities
1. Patient Preparation & Care
- Verify patient identity, clinical details, and imaging requests.
- Prepare and position patients appropriately for X-ray and CT procedures.
- Explain procedures clearly and provide necessary instructions.
- Ensure patient safety and comfort throughout the procedure.
2. X-Ray & CT Imaging
- Perform routine and specialized X-ray examinations as per protocols.
- Perform CT scans with appropriate protocols and positioning.
- Assist with contrast-enhanced CT procedures as per departmental protocols.
- Ensure proper image acquisition and positioning for diagnostic-quality images.
3. Equipment Operation & Maintenance
- Operate X-ray, CT scanners, and related imaging equipment safely and efficiently.
- Perform daily equipment checks and basic quality control procedures.
- Report equipment faults or abnormalities promptly.
- Maintain cleanliness and readiness of imaging equipment and rooms.
4. Radiation Safety & Quality
- Follow radiation protection and safety protocols.
- Use appropriate radiation shielding and minimize unnecessary exposure.
- Maintain image quality while following ALARA principles.
- Comply with hospital radiation safety and infection control policies.
5. Documentation & Records
- Maintain accurate patient and examination records.
- Ensure timely transfer and storage of images through PACS/RIS.
- Document contrast administration and any adverse reactions when applicable.
- Assist with departmental audits and accreditation requirements.
6. Emergency & Contrast Procedures
- Assist in emergency imaging procedures when required.
- Monitor patients during contrast-enhanced examinations.
- Recognize and promptly report adverse reactions or patient deterioration.
7. Coordination
- Coordinate with radiologists, clinicians, nurses, and other departments.
- Support emergency and night-shift imaging services.
- Maintain effective communication within the radiology team.
Education
- B.Sc. Medical Imaging Technology / B.Sc. Radiology & Imaging Technology / Diploma in Radiology & Imaging Technology or equivalent.
- Valid registration with the relevant authority, where applicable.
Experience
- 2–5 years of relevant X-Ray/CT experience preferred.
Skills
- Strong knowledge of X-ray and CT procedures and positioning.
- Knowledge of radiation safety and infection control.
- Familiarity with PACS/RIS and imaging documentation.
- Good patient-handling and communication skills.
- Ability to work accurately under pressure and in shifts.
