Role & responsibilities

- Develop, qualify, and implement Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS), Procedure Qualification Records (PQRs), and Welder Performance Qualification (WPQ) in line with ASME Sec IX, and project/client requirements.

- Ensure compliance for statutory shop accreditation audit for ASME S,U,U2, NBIC R Code stamps, IBR Class I boiler manufacturer, PESO SMPV(U) and cryogenics storage vessel, customer audit, TPI coordination for welding activities

- Approve and monitor appropriate welding processes (SMAW, GTAW, SAW, FCAW, GMAW, etc.) based on materials and design.

- Ensure all welding activities comply with statutory regulations, customer specifications, and internal quality standards.

- Lead analysis of welding defects and implement robust Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPA).

- Ensure production of pressure vessel, heat exchanger, column, boiler components and pressure parts and other equipments as per sales plan

- Supervise welding of special alloys (e.g.

Low Alloy

Steel, stainless steel, duplex, clad materials).

- Optimize welding sequences to control heat input, minimize distortion, and reduce rework.

- Prepare and maintain comprehensive welding documentation such as weld maps, welder continuity record. Welding machine Calibration record.

- Interface with quality and client inspection teams for welding audits, quality surveillance, and final approval of welding dossiers.

- Support ISO 9001, ASME U-Stamp, IBR, and customer audits by providing complete and verifiable welding documentation.

- Supervise and mentor welding engineers, supervisors, inspectors,



and welders on both shop and site assignments.

- Conduct periodic training, requalification, and skill development programs to upgrade welding capabilities.

- Study of drawing, planning of welding process and consumables well in advance right from inquiry stage to execution.

- Approve selection of welding consumables and estimation (electrodes, filler wires, shielding gases) and ensure proper storage, handling, and usage.

- Track consumption trends, ensure proper batch traceability, and minimize wastage through process monitoring.

- Coordinate with procurement and stores for timely availability of welding materials as per job priorities.

- Identify and implement welding automation or semi-automation techniques (FCAW/GMAW, SAW, Robot, Cobot etc.) for productivity and consistency.

- Explore and adopt contemporary welding technologies such as cladding, hard facing, and overlay welding based on project needs.

- Liaise with design, planning, QA/QC, project management, and procurement teams for smooth coordination of welding and fabrication activities.

- Participate in technical discussions, design reviews, and client meetings regarding welding and fabrication.

- Represent the welding/fabrication department during internal and external quality audits, client visits, and TPI inspections.
