About The Role The Senior Web & Video Player Engineer at Kake will play a pivotal role in designing, developing, and maintaining high-performance video playback solutions across web and Connected TV platforms. This position requires deep expertise in JavaScript and web video streaming technologies, with a focus on creating scalable, reliable streaming experiences that meet the demands of modern digital consumers. The successful candidate will own the end-to-end development of video player features, troubleshoot playback issues, and optimize user experience metrics such as startup time, rebuffering, and latency.

Collaboration with cross-functional teams, including product managers and other engineering disciplines, is essential to deliver seamless video experiences that align with business goals and user expectations.

Qualifications The ideal candidate will possess over 7 years of web development experience, with a strong emphasis on JavaScript and web video playback technologies.



Proven experience in building and maintaining video players and live streaming components for both web and Connected TV platforms is essential. Hands-on expertise with streaming frameworks such as Bitmovin, JW Player, HLS.js, or Shaka is required, including tuning and troubleshooting playback behavior in live streaming scenarios.

Candidates should demonstrate the ability to analyze and optimize playback performance, understand streaming protocols, live playback concepts like latency and drift, and integrate Digital Rights Management (DRM) solutions. Excellent communication skills in English and the ability to work independently in a remote environment are also important.

Responsibilities

- Design, architect, and implement video player features tailored for web and Connected TV platforms such as Chromecast, Xbox, Samsung Tizen, LG, Vizio, and Comcast boxes.
- Develop and optimize video player components utilizing frameworks like Bitmovin, JW Player, HLS.js, or Shaka, ensuring high-quality playback experiences.
- Troubleshoot and resolve playback issues including rebuffering, latency, startup delays, and live streaming-specific challenges.
- Monitor and analyze player performance and Quality of Experience (QoE)



metrics to identify areas for improvement and implement necessary enhancements.
- Contribute to player development using React Native for CTV and multi-device environments, ensuring compatibility and performance across platforms.
- Develop automated tests, including unit and end-to-end testing, and consume RESTful APIs to support reliable playback integrations.
- Collaborate effectively with product teams, designers, and other engineers within agile development cycles to deliver high-quality software.
- Create clear technical documentation and specifications for playback features and improvements.
