Role Overview

Staten Solar is looking for a Design Manager who will be responsible for executing detailed engineering designs for solar PV and BESS projects in the United States.

The candidate is expected to personally develop SLDs, perform calculations, produce construction-ready drawings and BOM, and drive design decisions while also guiding a small team.

Key Responsibilities

1. Engineering Design (Primary Responsibility)

- Personally develop and deliver:

- Single Line Diagrams (SLDs)
- DC/AC system sizing and layouts
- Stringing, inverter loading, and clipping analysis
- Cable sizing, voltage drop, and conduit fill calculations.
- Perform protection coordination and equipment selection.

- Ensure compliance with
- NEC, IEEE standards, California Electrical Code

2. Construction Drawings & Detailed Engineering

- Prepare complete construction drawing sets, including:
- Electrical layouts (DC & AC)
- Equipment layouts and routing plans
- Conduit layouts and trench details
- Mounting/installation details (in coordination with structural team)
- Ensure drawings are IFC (Issued for Construction) ready with minimal ambiguity.
- Incorporate AHJ and utility requirements into final drawing sets.

3. Bill of Materials (BOM) & BOQ Development

- Prepare accurate and optimized BOM/BOQ, including:
- DC & AC cables (with lengths and specs)
- Conduits, raceways, and fittings
- Switchgear, transformers, protection equipment




- BESS components and integration equipment
- Align BOM with design intent and procurement strategy.
- Continuously optimize quantities for cost and constructability

4. Interconnection Design & Utility Engineering

- Prepare complete engineering packages for interconnection under:

- Rule 21

- Develop

- Protection schemes
- Anti-islanding approaches

- Metering configurations
- Work directly on requirements from utilities such as:
- PG&E;

- SCE

- LADWP

5. BESS System Design (Execution-Focused)

- Perform detailed design of BESS systems:
- PCS sizing and block configuration
- Battery sizing (MWh, duration, cycles/day)
- AC vs DC coupling decisions

6. Optimization & Value Engineering

- Actively optimize:

- BOS cost

- Cable routing and sizing
- Inverter loading ratios.
- Improve constructability and reduce field issues.

7. Proposal & Execution Support

- Support business development with:
- Quick layouts, SLDs, and preliminary BOM
- Resolve site/construction RFIs with practical, buildable solutions.

Required Qualifications

- Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering
- 6-10+ years of direct, hands-on design experience
- Proven experience delivering construction-ready drawing sets and BOM.

Must-Have Skills (Non-Negotiable)

- Ability to independently create:

- SLDs from scratch
- Complete construction drawing packages.

- Accurate BOM/BOQ

- Robust working knowledge of

- NEC

- US utility interconnection requirements
- Hands-on experience with:

- AutoCAD
- PVsyst / Helioscope / PVCase/ Aurora

Preferred Experience

- US projects
- BESS integration
