Job Description
Why this role exists:
The Product Data Writer is responsible for creating accurate, engaging, and customer-focused product information that empowers customers to find, understand, and confidently purchase products across all Officeworks channels. Operating as a key customer-facing content specialist within the Commercial function, the role ensures product copy and media assets are complete, compliant, and launch-ready before inventory arrives.
By balancing creative storytelling with technical accuracy and speed, the role drives consistency across web, mobile, mobile apps, digital catalogues, email marketing, kiosks, and in-store signage. It resolves content gaps, applies SEO principles, and optimizes product data workflows during Range Reviews to directly improve search findability, customer decision-making, and commercial conversion.

In this role you will:
Product Content Creation and Copywriting:
Draft clear, engaging, and customer-centred product titles, descriptions, feature bullet points, and benefit statements.
Translate technical supplier specifications into easy-to-understand customer perks and decision-making details.
Maintain brand voice, style-guide compliance, and appropriate tone across all product ranges and categories.
Ensure product copy remains accurate and consistent across web, mobile, apps, catalogues, email, kiosks, and in-store signage.
Launch Readiness and Content Delivery:
Coordinate copy and media asset preparation to guarantee product content is fully approved before stock arrival and range launches.
Partner with Category teams to understand product range priorities, feature highlights, and critical launch timelines.
Manage content request queues and Range Review updates within agreed service level agreements (SLAs).
SEO Optimisation and Search Findability:
Apply digital content best practices and SEO principles to optimize product titles and descriptions for organic search findability.
Conduct keyword integration to improve internal search relevance, customer discovery, and conversion rates.
Audit product page performance to refine search visibility and enhance customer engagement across digital touchpoints.
Advise category and content teams on effective SEO techniques, copy clarity, and user navigation improvements.
Brand Standards and Legal Compliance:
Apply enterprise style guides, formatting standards, and brand guidelines across all published product content.
Ensure all product claims and copy adhere to Australian Consumer Law, Trade Practices, and internal regulatory compliance rules.
Review supplier imagery and media assets to confirm compliance with technical resolution, copyright, and brand standards.
Identify and escalate potential launch risks, accuracy discrepancies, or legal compliance issues through appropriate channels.
Range Review Enrichment and Continuous Improvement:
Enrich product information and taxonomy attributes during cyclical Range Review processes.
Utilise PIM platforms and workflow management tools (such as Monday.com) to track content creation and approval stages.
Identify recurring process friction, content gaps, or workflow bottlenecks across product setup cycles.
Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives that streamline content ingestion, proofreading, and publishing workflows
Who you will be working with:
Category and Commercial Teams: Partner with Category Management and Category Planning to clarify product features, priorities, and launch schedules.
Customer Experience and Marketing Partners: Collaborate with Customer Experience, Digital, Online, and Marketing teams to produce unified, customer-centred content.
Technology and Operations Teams: Work alongside Web Development, Technology, Supply Chain, and Data teams to govern content publishing and system integrations.
External Suppliers and Partners: Liaise directly with product suppliers, PIM vendors (e.g., STIBO/PIM), and media enrichment partners to source specs and assets.
What success looks like:
Launch Readiness Rate: High percentage of new products published with fully approved copy, specifications, and imagery prior to stock arrival.
Content Accuracy and Quality: Excellent first-pass approval rates with minimal copy errors, achieving full compliance with style guides and legal standards.
Delivery SLA Performance: Timely execution of content requests and Range Review updates within agreed operational timeframes.
Search and Conversion Impact: Measurable improvements in search findability, customer engagement metrics, and product page conversion rates.

Qualifications and work experience:
Essential:
Education: Tertiary qualification in Communications, Writing, Marketing, Digital Content, Project Management or a related discipline (or equivalent practical retail and product-content experience).
Experience: 3-5 years of experience in retail, customer-facing content, online copywriting, or product-data management roles.
Copywriting Capability: Demonstrated professional writing, editing, and proofreading skills with an ability to translate technical supplier data into engaging benefits.
Technical Knowledge: Practical understanding of SEO principles, digital content design, brand tone of voice, and style-guide application.
Compliance Understanding: Working knowledge of product-content compliance, Trade Practices requirements, and Australian Consumer Law basics.
Workflow Management: Experience managing content deadlines, Range Review updates, cross-functional launch schedules, and proofreading cycles.
Systems Exposure: Working knowledge of Product Information Management (PIM) software, project management tools (e.g., Monday.com), and Microsoft Office.
Preferred:
Formal training or certifications in SEO, content design, or digital copywriting.
Advanced hands-on experience with STIBO/PIM enterprise product platforms.
Prior experience writing for large-scale omnichannel retail environments across digital and physical customer touchpoints.f
