Why this role exists
The Associate Space Manager leads the space planning cohort, ensuring high-quality, timely, and consistent delivery of planograms and store floor plans across all commercial category portfolios. The role manages daily workflow across a single flexible planner pool, balancing competing category demands while flexing team capacity to meet high-volume Total Product Review (TPR) release windows and store development schedules.
The role ensures high-quality planning standards, parent-size planogram compliance, and first-time-right execution to prevent store stocking friction and stock loss. It operationalises spatial guidelines set by the Micro Space Leads and Capacity and Adjacency Lead across categories building transferable planogramming capabilities across team members while eliminating operational delivery risks.

Where you will make a difference
In this role you will:

Space Planning Quality and Standards
Lead quality assurance across all planograms and store floor plans, ensuring compliance with parent-size rules, spatial guardrails and visual merchandising standards.
Ensure local store requirements and approved variations are accurately reflected in executable planning files.
Review planogram designs for operational practicality, minimising stocking complexity and in-store labour requirements.

Workflow Management and Capacity Allocation
Allocate daily tasks and prioritise work across the flexible pool of Space Planners to maintain balanced workload distribution.
Flex team capacity dynamically to support peak commercial demands, Total Product Review (TPR) cycles, and store layout updates.
Track team throughput and capacity against operational service level agreements, proactively resolving workflow bottlenecks.
Monitor delivery schedules across commercial category portfolios to ensure publishing deadlines are consistently met
Cross-Functional Delivery Coordination
Coordinate space planning delivery timelines across Category Management, Store Operations, and Store Design workflows.
Operationalise specialist spatial decisions set by the Micro Space Leads and Capacity & Adjacency Lead across the planner pool.




Manage delivery risks and project dependencies across space platforms, providing regular status updates to leadership.
Escalate resource constraints, trade-off conflicts, or major scope changes to the Space Senior Manager promptly
Platform Adoption and Workflow Optimisation
Guide team adoption of core enterprise space platforms, including Blue Yonder, monday.com, and Scalene workflow tools.
Identify operational planning bottlenecks and collaborate with Space Optimisation Analysts to embed automated tools.
Maintain central documentation for space planning standards, file management protocols, and operational SOPs
Team Leadership
Lead, manage, and develop direct reports, fostering a high-performing, inclusive, and accountable team culture.
Set transparent performance objectives, conduct regular check-ins, and manage formal annual performance evaluation cycles.
Identify individual and team capability gaps, establishing structured development plans and technical learning opportunities.
Manage recruitment, onboarding, and talent retention activities to maintain team capability and operational continuity.
Who you will be working with
Commercial Category Teams: Partner with Category Management and Category Planning teams to clarify range review schedules and input requirements.
Planning Leadership: Collaborate closely with the Space Senior Manager, Micro Space Leads, and Capacity and Adjacency Lead to align team resources with strategic priorities.
Operational Delivery Partners: Work with Store Operations, Store Design & Development, Inventory, and Program Managers to confirm store layout constraints and execution timelines.
External Technical Partners: Coordinate with space platform vendors (Blue Yonder, monday.com) and fixture suppliers (IVE, 3DVRS) on technical specifications and workflow issues.

What success looks like
Financial Contribution: Measured improvement in category GMROS delivered through high-quality, on-time space plans.
Quality Execution: High percentage of POGs meeting parent-size standards and achieving high first-time-right accuracy rates.
Operational Delivery: High percentage of scheduled planograms and store floor plans delivered on time within agreed operational SLAs.
Capacity Optimisation: Effective team capacity utilization and capability uplift delivered against plan across the space planning pool.

Qualifications and work experience
Essential
Education: Tertiary qualification in Business, Commerce, Retail Management, Analytics, or a related discipline is required (or equivalent practical retail space planning experience).
Experience: 57+ years in retail space planning, planogramming, merchandise planning, or a related commercial function, including experience coordinating work, coaching others, or leading a team.
Technical Mastery: Strong practical knowledge of retail space planning, planogramming platforms (Blue Yonder), category portfolios, store formats, and planning workflows.
Process and Quality Focus: Sound understanding of capacity and adjacency principles, spatial data quality, parent-size compliance, and continuous workflow improvement.
People Leadership: Demonstrated capability to allocate team workload, coach individual team members, and manage team performance in a fast-paced retail workplace.
Stakeholder Engagement: Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to advise on delivery risks, manage expectations, and influence planning standards.
Delivery Governance: Track record of managing project timelines, tracking operational SLAs, and mitigating delivery bottlenecks across multiple category portfolios.
Preferred
System Specialisation: Advanced proficiency in Blue Yonder Space Planning, monday.com, and automation tools.
Retail Operations Exposure: Practical experience in retail store operations, visual merchandising, or store design execution.
Agile Workflow Management: Experience applying agile workflow tracking, Kanban management, or team capacity modelling within a commercial planning environment.
