The Commercial team sits at the heart of Officeworks’ growth agenda. This function brings together customer needs, product innovation, services, supplier partnerships, merchandise planning, and channel growth to shape what Officeworks sells, how it competes, and the value it delivers across Retail, B2B, Government, and Education. This is a unique chance to contribute to one of the business’s most commercially impactful areas.
The team plays a key role in evolving Officeworks’ product and service offering, accelerating growth in high-potential channels (such as B2B and Education), expanding private label and exclusive ranges, strengthening supplier partnerships, and unlocking emerging category opportunities across areas like technology, gaming, mobility, VR, print, installation, telco, and managed services.
You will help build commercial capability from the ground up, shaping scalable ways of working, strengthening planning and decision-making, and driving outcomes that impact sales, margin, customer experience, inventory performance, and long-term growth.

Why this role exists:
The Systems and Reporting Team Leader is accountable for the day-to-day performance of merchandise systems, reporting, process and product data services. The role sets team priorities, manages capacity, monitors service quality and coordinates the resolution of operational issues. The role combines formal people leadership with hands-on delivery.
It contributes directly to complex analysis, reporting and data validation, process improvement, testing and quality assurance while ensuring the team maintains reliable services during peak periods. It also works with Category Assistant Leads to identify recurring operational issues and coordinate practical improvements.
Where you will make a difference:
Systems, Reporting and Data Services:
- Oversee the delivery and maintenance of merchandise systems, reporting, planning solutions and product data services.
- Ensure reporting, product data and content outputs meet agreed standards for accuracy, completeness, timeliness and control.
- Coordinate the investigation and resolution of system defects, reporting failures and data issues with team members and Technology and Data partners.
- Maintain appropriate testing, documentation, validation, version control and change controls for business-managed solutions.
- Provide practical guidance to business users on systems, reporting, data interpretation and known limitations.
Process and Service Improvement:
- Oversee the documentation and improvement of merchandise processes, controls, roles and system interactions.
- Ensure process, policy and ways of working content is current, clearly owned and accessible through approved knowledge platforms.
- Identify and priorities opportunities to simplify processes, improve workflows, reduce manual effort and automate repeatable work.
- Lead or contribute directly to process analysis, requirements definition, solution design, testing and implementation for priority improvements.
- Oversee product data enrichment and content optimization, including quality assurance across priority ranges and digital customer journeys.
- Ensure approved improvements are controlled, documented, communicated and embedded with affected teams.
- Monitor implemented improvements to confirm intended benefits are achieved and identify further action where required.
People Leadership:
- Lead, coach and develop a team across systems, reporting, process improvement, product data optimization and content.
- Set clear objectives and accountabilities, review work quality, provide regular feedback and manage performance.
- Build team capability, cross-skilling and knowledge transfer to improve service continuity and reduce reliance on individual specialists.
- Act as the primary operational contact for the team’s services, working with Commercial stakeholders to clarify requirements, priorities and service expectations.
- Partner with Category Assistant Leads to identify and address recurring systems, reporting, process and product data issues affecting category execution.
- Provide the Merchandise Systems and Data Manager with service insights, recommendations and visibility of material risks, constraints and delivery trade-offs.
Who you will be working with:
- Merchandise Systems and Data Manager: Translate function priorities into operational plans and provide visibility of performance, improvement activity, risks and delivery trade-offs.
- Systems, Reporting, Process and Product Data Team: Lead the team’s performance, capability and work allocation while contributing directly to priority analysis, problem-solving, testing and quality assurance.
- Category Assistant Leads and Category Assistant Teams: Identify recurring issues, priorities improvement opportunities, test proposed solutions and embed agreed changes into day-to-day category support.
- Category Management and Merchandise Planning: Understand business requirements and resolve systems, reporting, process and product data issues affecting category execution.
- Technology, Data and Other Business Partners: Coordinate technical delivery, issue resolution and cross-functional requirements with Technology, Data, Digital, Finance, Marketing, Customer Experience, Store Operations, Legal, Risk, Compliance and relevant external partners.

- Service performance: Systems, reporting, process and product data services are delivered accurately, consistently and within agreed service expectations.
- Systems and reporting reliability: Business-critical systems, reporting and planning solutions remain reliable, with defects and service issues identified, investigated and resolved promptly.
- Data and content quality: Reporting, product data and product content meet agreed standards for accuracy, completeness, quality and control.
- Process and knowledge effectiveness: Processes and supporting knowledge content are clear, current, controlled and practical for users.
- Improvement outcomes: Process, reporting and automation improvements reduce manual effort, rework and cycle time and are adopted by affected teams.
- Team capability: Team members have clear expectations, effective leadership, appropriate development and sufficient cross-skilling to maintain service continuity.
- Stakeholder confidence: Commercial stakeholders understand service expectations and have confidence in the team’s delivery, communication and issue resolution.
Qualifications and work experience:
Essential:
- Relevant experience: 5–7+ years' experience across business systems, reporting, data, process improvement, product data or a related operational enablement function.
- Education: Tertiary qualification in Information Systems, Data Analytics, Business, Commerce or a related discipline, or equivalent relevant experience.
- Service delivery: Experience managing operational services, work intake, delivery priorities, service expectations and issue escalation across multiple stakeholders.
- Problem-solving: Experience investigating complex operational, system or data issues and coordinating practical resolution across business and technical teams.
- Process improvement: Ability to facilitate process discussions, map processes, document requirements and support the implementation of improved systems, workflows or ways of working.
- Data and controls: Working knowledge of data quality, reporting governance, validation controls, testing and issue remediation.
- Delivery management: Demonstrated ability to manage multiple workstreams, competing priorities, risks and dependencies within available capacity.
- Stakeholder management: Strong communication and influencing skills, with the ability to clarify requirements, manage expectations and resolve delivery issues.
- Commercial understanding: Sound understanding of merchandise or retail operations and the relationship between systems, reporting, product data and category execution.
Preferred:
Experience within a large-scale omnichannel retail, consumer goods or operationally complex commercial environment.
