Position: Staff Nurse – Operation Theatre (OT)

Department: Operation Theatre

Location: Kinder Women’s Hospital & Fertility Centre, Kollam

Reporting To: Nursing Superintendent / OT In-charge

Job Summary The Staff Nurse – OT is responsible for providing safe and efficient nursing care to patients before, during, and after surgical procedures. The role involves assisting the surgical team, maintaining aseptic techniques, ensuring OT readiness, and maintaining patient safety and infection-control standards.

Key Responsibilities

- Prepare the Operation Theatre, instruments, equipment, and supplies before procedures.
- Receive and verify patients before surgery and ensure proper identification and documentation.
- Assist surgeons, anesthetists, and other OT personnel during surgical procedures.
- Maintain strict aseptic and sterile techniques throughout the procedure.
- Perform surgical scrub, gowning, gloving, and preparation as required.
- Assist with surgical instrument and equipment handling.
- Maintain accurate instrument, sponge, swab, and needle counts before, during, and after surgery.
- Monitor and maintain the availability of OT supplies, instruments, drugs, and consumables.
- Assist with patient positioning and ensure patient safety during procedures.
- Monitor patients and promptly report any changes or concerns to the concerned medical team.
- Assist in the safe transfer of patients to the recovery area after surgery.
- Ensure proper cleaning, disinfection, sterilization, and preparation of OT equipment and instruments.
- Coordinate with CSSD for sterilized instruments and supplies.
- Follow hospital policies,



infection-control protocols, biomedical waste management procedures, and OT safety standards.
- Maintain proper records, checklists, registers, and surgical documentation.
- Check the functionality and availability of OT equipment and report any malfunction immediately.
- Maintain confidentiality of patient information.
- Participate in emergency and on-call duties as assigned.
- Support continuous quality improvement and patient-safety initiatives within the OT.
- Perform any other duties assigned by the Nursing Superintendent or OT In-charge.

Qualifications
- B.Sc. Nursing / GNM from a recognized institution.
- Valid registration with the respective State Nursing Council.
- Additional OT/Perioperative Nursing certification will be an advantage.

Experience
- 3 years of relevant experience in an Operation Theatre.
- Candidates with experience in a multispecialty/women’s hospital will be preferred.

Pay: ₹23,500.00 - ₹30,000.00 per month
