VP – Database Operations The VP – Database Operations will lead global enterprise database operations at significant scale, with responsibility for the availability, performance, security, resilience and modernization of a complex database environment spanning SQL Server, Oracle and PostgreSQL, cloud platforms including Azure and AWS, and high-availability/disaster-recovery technologies. The role combines deep hands-on database expertise with senior technical leadership, overseeing database engineering and operations teams, driving automation and modernization, managing HA/DR and performance engineering, and establishing operational standards across a 24×7 setting. The successful leader must be comfortable operating at both the technical and executive levels, influencing architecture and technology strategy while building and developing high-performing database teams. This is a Pune-based role and requires working the mandatory Nashville Shift, approximately 6:30 PM – 3:30 AM IST (flexible).

Key ResponsibilitiesEnterprise Database Operations

- Own the strategy, reliability and operational performance of the enterprise database environment.
- Lead operations across large-scale SQL Server, Oracle and PostgreSQL environments.
- Ensure high availability, resilience, performance and security across production databases.
- Establish and maintain operational standards, SLAs, controls and best practices.
- Lead 24×7 database operations, incident management and service continuity.

Database Engineering &

• Architecture

- Provide strong technical leadership across SQL Server, Oracle and PostgreSQL platforms.
- Guide database architecture, engineering standards and technology decisions.
- Oversee AlwaysOn, Failover Clustering, Log Shipping and other HA/DR technologies.
- Drive database performance tuning, capacity planning and optimization.
- Lead database migrations, upgrades, consolidation and modernization initiatives.

Cloud &

• Modernization

- Drive modernization of database platforms across Azure and AWS.
- Lead adoption of cloud database technologies and appropriate migration strategies.
- Evaluate opportunities to improve scalability, resilience, automation and cost efficiency.
- Establish standards for hybrid and cloud database operations.





Automation &

• Operational Excellence

- Drive automation across database provisioning, monitoring, maintenance, backup/recovery and operational processes.
- Leverage PowerShell, T-SQL, SQL Agent, Control-M and related technologies to reduce manual intervention.
- Improve monitoring, observability and proactive issue detection.
- Establish measurable improvements in availability, operational efficiency and incident resolution.

Security, Governance &

• Risk

- Ensure database environments meet enterprise security, governance and compliance requirements.
- Establish appropriate controls around access, data protection, backup/recovery and change management.
- Partner with information security, risk and audit teams on database-related requirements.
- Support regulatory and financial-services controls where applicable.

Leadership &

• Team Development

- Lead, mentor and develop a high-performing database engineering and operations organization.
- Provide technical direction while maintaining strong hands-on credibility with senior engineers and DBAs.
- Build leadership capability, succession plans and technical depth within the organization.
- Establish clear accountability, performance expectations and operating rhythms.
- Build and scale offshore/global database operations capabilities.

Incident, Availability &

• Business Continuity

- Provide leadership during major database incidents and critical production events.
- Establish robust HA/DR, backup and recovery strategies.
- Ensure business continuity and disaster-recovery objectives are consistently met.
- Drive root-cause analysis and permanent corrective actions for recurring issues.
- Maintain strong operational readiness across a global, multi-site environment.

Executive &

• Stakeholder Management

- Partner with senior technology, infrastructure, application,



security and business stakeholders.
- Translate business requirements into database technology strategy and execution.
- Communicate operational risks, technology investments, performance and transformation initiatives to executive leadership.
- Manage strategic vendors, technology partners and major database programs.

Work Schedule Nashville Shift — Mandatory

Working Hours: Approximately 6:30 PM – 3:30 AM IST (Flexible) to provide alignment with US/Nashville business hours.

The role operates within a 24×7 global database environment and may require weeknight and weekend availability during planned production implementations, maintenance windows and critical database activities.

Required Experience &

Qualifications

- 10 years of progressive database administration/engineering experience, with significant experience in enterprise environments.
- 5 years of database leadership/management experience.
- Strong hands-on expertise in SQL Server, with substantial experience in Oracle and/or PostgreSQL.
- Strong knowledge of T-SQL, PowerShell, SQL Agent and database automation.
- Experience with AlwaysOn, Failover Clustering, Log Shipping and HA/DR.
- Strong background in database performance tuning, monitoring, capacity planning and troubleshooting.
- Experience with Azure and/or AWS database platforms.
- Experience leading database migrations, modernization and cloud transformation.
- Experience managing global, multi-site or 24×7 database operations.
- Strong understanding of database security, governance, backup/recovery and business continuity.
- Proven experience leading and developing technical database teams.
- Strong executive communication and stakeholder-management skills.
- Mandatory willingness to work the Nashville Shift.
