The Commercial team sits at the heart of Officeworks’ growth agenda. This function brings together customer needs, product innovation, services, supplier partnerships, merchandise planning, and channel growth to shape what Officeworks sells, how it competes, and the value it delivers across Retail, B2B, Government, and Education. This is a unique prospect to contribute to one of the business’s most commercially impactful areas.
The team plays a key role in evolving Officeworks’ product and service offering, accelerating growth in high-potential channels (such as B2B and Education), expanding private label and exclusive ranges, strengthening supplier partnerships, and unlocking emerging category opportunities across areas like technology, gaming, mobility, VR, print, installation, telco, and managed services.
You will help build commercial capability from the ground up, shaping scalable ways of working, strengthening planning and decision-making, and driving outcomes that impact sales, margin, customer experience, inventory performance, and long-term growth.
These roles are best suited for people who enjoy:
- thriving in a growth-focused retail environment where commercial decisions directly influence customers, sales, margin, and competitiveness
- contributing to key growth areas, including B2B, Education, Government, private label, exclusive products, and emerging categories
- using insights (customer, competitor,
category, supplier, financial, inventory) to identify opportunities and inform decisions
- collaborating cross-functionally to turn commercial strategy into practical outcomes
Why this role exists:
The Space Planner exists to translate approved commercial, range and spatial decisions into accurate, executable planograms and store plans. The role ensures category changes and store programs are delivered on time, meet planning standards and can be implemented effectively by store teams.
Working flexibly across micro space, capacity, adjacency and floor planning, the role applies specialist lead direction to different categories and programs as priorities change. It maintains the quality and accuracy of planning files, resolves data and fixture issues and supports first-time-right execution across the store network
Where you will make a difference:
Planogram Development and Quality:
- Build, update and maintain micro space planograms for assigned categories and programs using Blue Yonder Space Planning.
- Translate approved range decisions, standards, spatial guardrails and lead direction into accurate planogram outputs.
- Apply product display requirements, fixture specifications and visual merchandising standards consistently across planograms.
- Validate product dimensions, packaging data and fixture information before publication, resolving discrepancies with the relevant teams.
- Complete prescribed quality checks to improve first-time-right publication and reduce store execution rework.
Store Plan and Floor Layout Delivery:
- Build, update and maintain MEP IV store plans and floor layouts for assigned store updates, format changes, renewals and new-store programs.
- Map approved category footprints, bay configurations and fixture specifications accurately against store architectural plans.
- Translate store formats, local conditions and physical constraints into practical store plans, applying approved macro space and adjacency decisions.
- Incorporate approved local variations while maintaining compliance with enterprise space and layout standards.
- Maintain accurate planogram repositories and store drawing libraries, ensuring effective version control and file accessibility.
Total Product Review and Store Execution Support:
- Deliver assigned space planning activities through Total Product Review and range update cycles in line with agreed milestones.
- Support range rationalization, new product introductions and category changes by producing accurate and executable planning files.
- Investigate and resolve product data, dimensional and fixture discrepancies in partnership with Category Planning, Category Assistants, Store Design and other relevant teams.
- Support physical trial builds and virtual store reviews to validate planogram and floor-plan feasibility before network rollout.
- Respond to store execution queries, clarify planning requirements and incorporate approved feedback into final outputs.
Flexible Delivery and Continuous Improvement:
- Work flexibly across micro space, capacity, adjacency and store planning activities in response to portfolio and program priorities.
- Apply standardized templates, automated planning tools and agreed workflows across Blue Yonder, monday.com, and MEP IV.
- Identify recurring planning, data and execution issues, escalating unclear requirements, conflicts and delivery risks to the relevant lead.
- Contribute to process improvements that strengthen output quality, reduce rework and increase planning capacity.
- Maintain current knowledge of space planning standards, systems and ways of working, developing broader capability across the planning discipline.
What success looks like:
- Gross Margin Optimization: Quantifiable gross margin and net profit improvement achieved across B2C retail channels and B2B contract accounts.
- Commercial Value Realization: High mitigation rate of supplier cost-price increases, target trading-terms value delivered, and successful B2B tender win rates.
- Operational Delivery and Accuracy: SLA compliance and accuracy rates for price change transmissions, in-store shelf ticketing, and B2B customer quote turnaround times.
- Automation and Capability Uplift: Measurable reduction in manual pricing effort and release of analyst capacity through automated tools, SAP workflows, and structured playbooks.
- Demonstrates behaviours aligned to Officeworks’ values, contributing to a respectful, inclusive and high-performing culture.
Who you will be working with:
- Category Management Teams: Partner with Category Managers, Category Planners, and Category Assistants to confirm product specifications, range review inputs, and layout requirements.
