Experience

- 6-9 years of professional software engineering experience with strong hands-on experience in Java backend development.
- Strong experience developing and supporting Spring Boot, REST APIs and Microservices in production environments.
- Experience working with API and EDI integrations; exposure to EDI X12 transaction sets such as 204, 214, 990 is a robust plus.
- Experience with SOAP/XML integrations and third-party system integrations is preferred.

Core Responsibilities

- Design, develop, integrate and maintain scalable Java backend services and REST APIs.
- Build and maintain Microservices-based applications using Java and Spring Boot.
- Integrate with third-party APIs, EDI platforms and enterprise systems by understanding technical specifications and translating them into reliable production code.
- Read and interpret API documentation, EDI/X12 specifications and integration requirements and independently convert them into working solutions with minimal hand-holding.
- Develop and maintain integrations involving REST, SOAP/XML and EDI-based communication.
- Work with event-driven and asynchronous architectures, including Apache Kafka, where applicable.
- Debug and troubleshoot issues across distributed services, APIs, databases and integration layers.
- Analyze production issues, identify root causes and implement permanent fixes.
- Develop solutions with a focus on scalability, performance, reliability and fault tolerance.
- Collaborate with product, QA, DevOps and other engineering teams to deliver reliable backend integrations.

- Experience with EDI X12 transaction sets such as 204, 214, 990, etc. is highly desirable.
- Ability to troubleshoot integration failures across multiple systems and identify whether the issue originates in the application, API, EDI message, database or downstream system.

Nice to Have

- Prior experience in freight/logistics integrations.
- Experience with TMS, ELD, carrier APIs or logistics technology platforms.
- Hands-on experience with additional EDI X12 transaction sets.
- Experience with Kafka producers/consumers, message processing, retries and error handling.
- Experience with Docker/Kubernetes and cloud-based deployments.
- Experience with performance optimization and highly available backend systems.

What We Are Looking For We are looking for a hands-on backend engineer who can independently take an integration requirement or third-party specification, understand the technical flow, develop the required Java/Spring Boot services, integrate with external systems and troubleshoot issues through to production.

Candidates should demonstrate actual implementation and production experience, rather than only familiarity with the technologies listed above.
