Function: Operations

Role Overview The Zonal Operations Manager is responsible for driving end-to-end operational excellence across multiple regions within the assigned zone. The role focuses on service level adherence, cost optimization, asset & manpower productivity, vendor governance, and operational discipline, while ensuring seamless coordination between regions to deliver consistent customer experience and profitability.

Key Responsibilities

1. Service Level & Network Performance

- Own and drive end-to-end service level adherence (TAT, OTIF, delivery timelines) across all regions in the zone.
- Monitor operational KPIs and take corrective actions to eliminate service deviations.
- Ensure consistent execution of SOPs and operational standards across branches, hubs, and transshipment points.

2. Sales Support & Cost Optimization

- Support zonal targets through operational efficiency, cost rationalization, and productivity improvements.
- Identify and implement cost reduction initiatives across vehicle hire, fuel efficiency, handling, manpower, and network utilization.
- Partner with Sales and Finance teams to enable profitable growth without service dilution.

3. Pickup, Delivery & Vehicle Adherence

- Ensure timely pickup and delivery of consignments as per committed schedules.
- Drive on-time departure and arrival of vehicles, minimizing detention, delays, and idle time.
- Strengthen line-haul and feeder adherence through disciplined scheduling and monitoring.

Loss Prevention & Quality Control

- Drive reduction in damages, pilferage, excess, shortages, and claim incidents across the zone.
- Implement preventive controls, audits, and accountability mechanisms at branch and hub levels.
- Ensure compliance with safety, loading, and handling standards.

5. Vendor Management & VA Development

- Manage and develop transport vendors, vehicle attachers, and handling contractors across the zone.
- Ensure vendor compliance with service, safety, and commercial terms.

6. Manpower Productivity & Workforce Planning

- Optimize manpower productivity across operations, hubs, and last-mile functions.
- Drive performance discipline through role clarity, productivity benchmarks, and shift optimization.
- Work closely with HR on manpower planning, deployment, and skill enhancement.

7. Zonal Governance & Regional Coordination

- Oversee seamless coordination across regions within the zone to avoid silos and inconsistencies.
- Act as the zonal escalation point for operational issues, inter-regional dependencies, and critical disruptions.
- Ensure alignment between regional operations and national strategy.
