Job Purpose The QA Engineer establishes, maintains, and audits the quality management systems (QMS) across the lifecycle of electrical infrastructure projects. By focusing on AIS and GIS systems, they minimize engineering defects, manage technical risks, and verify that assets handed over to the network are secure, reliable, and fully compliant.

Key Responsibilities

System Compliance & Governance

- Implement QMS frameworks: Manage and continuously improve the quality framework in alignment with ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001..Design governance: Perform design assurance checks on 3D models, single-line diagrams (SLDs), layout plans, and grounding/earthing specifications for AIS and GIS compounds.
- Regulatory compliance: Ensure all engineered outputs comply with UK Health & Safety legislation, specifically CDM Regulations (2015).
- Auditing & Supplier Quality Assurance
- Audit delivery: Plan and conduct internal and external quality audits targeting site execution, manufacturing practices, and documentation accuracy.
- Supply chain monitoring: Evaluate third-party vendor drawings, gas-handling certifications (for GIS SF6 tracking), and structural/electrical manufacturing quality.
- Defect tracking:



Lead Root Cause Analysis (RCA) investigations for site defects or equipment failures and monitor corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) through to closure.
- Site Quality Control & Handover Material tracing: Monitor site certification of materials, specialist asset testing results, and critical tool calibrations. Installation inspection: Coordinate with commissioning engineers to review test logs for high-voltage circuit breakers, transformers, and gas-insulated compartments. Data book compilation: Verify final data books, test logs, and red-line drawings to prepare handover documentation for the Health and Safety file.

Qualifications & Experience Required Education & Certifications

- Academic background: Degree in Electrical Engineering, Quality Management, or a related technical discipline.
- Quality professional status: Minimum Practitioner member of the Chartered Quality Institute (PCQI) or working towards Chartered Status (MCQI).
- Auditing credentials: Certified Lead Auditor or Internal Auditor for ISO 9001:2015.

Technical Knowledge Requirements

- Asset familiarity: Strong grasp of the differences, design layouts, clearances, and handling requirements for Air-Insulated Switchgear (AIS) and Gas-Insulated Switchgear (GIS).
- Industry experience: Demonstrable quality assurance experience working within the UK utility sector, major infrastructure projects, or DNO (Distribution Network Operator) networks.
- Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
- Zero major audit non-conformances during external or third-party regulatory inspections.
- On-time compilation of quality data books and final site handover documentation.
- Reduction in recurring defects achieved by implementing successful root-cause interventions.
