About the Role
TIS runs makerspace and innovation programmes inside schools. As a Programming + Electronics Mentor, you will teach and guide students from Grades 1-8 through hands-on learning in coding, electronics, and physical computing. You will run makerspace activities. You will help students move from curiosity to building, tinkering, and problem-solving with real projects.
Key Responsibilities
Teaching and mentoring
● Deliver class-appropriate programming and electronics sessions across Grades 1-8 as per curriculum, from unplugged coding and block-based tools in the early grades to text-based coding and microcontroller projects in the upper grades.
● Guide students through circuits, sensors, motors, LEDs, and microcontroller platforms such as Arduino, micro:bit, and ESP32.
● Facilitate project-based, inquiry-driven learning that fits an IB (PYP/MYP) approach.
● Encourage design thinking, debugging, iteration, and reflection in every project.
Curriculum and content
● Help implement makerspace curriculum, including lesson plans, project guides, and assessment rubrics.
● Prepare learning materials, demo builds, and student worksheets.
● Contribute ideas for showcase events, exhibitions, and student-led conferences.
Makerspace operations
● Maintain tools, components, and kits, and keep inventory records.
● Enforce safety practices for soldering, power tools, batteries, and electronics.
● Keep the lab organised, labelled, and ready for sessions.
Collaboration and reporting
● Work closely with school teachers, coordinators, and the TIS team to align sessions with the school calendar.
● Track student progress and share updates and feedback with the Program Manager.
● Document projects with photos, videos, and short write-ups.
Required Qualifications and Skills
● Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Electronics, or a related field (or equivalent hands-on experience).
● Working knowledge of at least one programming language such as Python, C/C++, or Scratch, and block-based platforms.
● Hands-on experience with Arduino or similar microcontrollers, basic circuit design, and sensors/actuators.
● Ability to explain technical concepts simply to children of different ages.
● Solid classroom management, patience, and communication skills.
● Comfort with troubleshooting hardware and software issues in real time.
Good to Have
● Experience teaching or mentoring school students, or running workshops or clubs.
● Familiarity with robotics platforms or competitions.
● Exposure to IB, project-based, or inquiry-led learning.
● Basic knowledge of 3D printing, CAD, or laser cutting.
● Interest in AI/ML concepts for young learners.
What We're Looking For
● A curious, hands-on maker who enjoys learning alongside students
● A patient, energetic communicator who can hold attention across age groups
● A team player who is organised, dependable, and safety-conscious
● Someone who welcomes feedback and keeps improving their teaching
What You'll Gain
● Work in a well-equipped school makerspace, with room to shape programmes as they grow
● Exposure to national robotics competitions and school-industry partnerships
● Mentorship, training, and growth within a young, mission-driven education team
Pay: ₹40,000.00 - ₹50,000.00 per month
