Kimiya is a Bengaluru-based home decor brand creating design-led lighting and objects for Indian homes. We work with local makers to bring thoughtfully designed, India-made pieces to contemporary living spaces.
We're looking for a Product Design Intern for a 3–4 week remote project.
What you'll do
- Research materials, finishes and design trends in home decor and accessories, and put together mood boards to set the design direction.
- Develop original product concepts, from initial sketches and explorations through to refined final designs, including material and finish choices.
- Create 3D models, renders and presentation boards for the final concepts, ready for review and prototyping.

1. Your portfolio
Share a link to your portfolio (Behance, personal website, Google Drive, or PDF). Highlight the 3 projects you're most proud of, ideally product, accessory, or material-led work. If it helps, add a line about your role in each project.
2. Your lamp idea (in words)
Start by looking at the table lamps you see in Indian homes and stores today. What's missing or not working? That could be how they look, how they're made, how they light a room,
or how they fit into everyday life.
Now pick one recycled or reclaimed material and imagine a mid-premium table lamp made from it that fixes that gap. By mid-premium, we mean a well-made, thoughtfully designed piece someone would proudly keep in their home, not a luxury art object. Tell us:
- The gap: What problem or missing element did you notice?
- The material: Which material did you pick, and why does it suit a lamp?
- The source: Where would this material come from? For example, a type of industry, waste stream, or local market.
- The story: In a few lines, what's the idea behind your lamp, and why would someone want it?
Write this in the body of your email or attach it as a note. 3. Your lamp sketches
Share a link (Google Drive, Behance, or PDF) to sketches of the lamp you described. Please include:
- Front and side views, so we can understand the form
- Rough size, such as height and base width in cm
- Material placement, showing where the recycled material is used and what the other parts are made of
- Light behaviour, showing how and where the light falls, whether it's diffused, directional, or glowing through the material
Hand sketches or scanned pages are perfectly fine; we're looking for the idea, not polish. You don't need to work out wiring or electrical details. Simple renders or AI-generated visuals are a bonus.
