Ink Plant Manager

Job Summary

We are looking for an experienced Ink Plant Manager to lead the complete ink manufacturing function under the Plant Head. The role will be responsible for ink formulation execution, batch production, quality consistency, production planning, manpower management, material efficiency, safety, documentation and continuous improvement.

The ideal candidate should have strong hands-on experience in ink formulation and batch manufacturing, along with the ability to lead chemists, operators and production teams in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Key ResponsibilitiesInk Formulation & Technical Operations

- Execute and control approved ink formulations across production batches.
- Guide chemists on raw material selection, weighing sequence, mixing, dispersion, filtration and batch correction.
- Troubleshoot issues related to viscosity, density, shade, drying, adhesion, printability, stability and compatibility.
- Coordinate with R&D; and Quality teams for formulation trials, scale-up and validation.
- Ensure proper control and confidentiality of formulations and technical recipes.

Production Planning & Execution
- Prepare and execute daily, weekly and monthly production plans based on demand and dispatch requirements.
- Ensure timely completion of production batches and adherence to approved batch manufacturing procedures.
- Plan manpower, equipment and shift capacity to optimize production.
- Monitor production output, batch cycle time, yield, rework, downtime and schedule adherence.
- Identify production risks and implement corrective actions.

Quality Management
- Ensure in-process and finished-product quality checks are completed before batch release.
- Investigate batch deviations, non-conformities, rework and customer complaints.
- Lead Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPA) in coordination with Quality.
- Improve first-time-right production through standardized processes and operating parameters.
- Maintain batch traceability, reference samples and retain samples.

Team Management
- Lead formulation chemists,



production chemists, operators and helpers across shifts.
- Allocate daily responsibilities and ensure effective shift handovers.
- Train and coach chemists and operators on formulation, troubleshooting, documentation and process discipline.
- Develop skill matrices and training plans for the production team.
- Maintain discipline, attendance, housekeeping and accountability across the plant.

Raw Material & Cost Control
- Monitor raw material consumption against defined standards.
- Investigate material consumption variances and implement corrective actions.
- Coordinate with Procurement and Stores to ensure timely material availability and proper storage.
- Minimize wastage, spillage, excess solvent consumption, rework and obsolete inventory.
- Support cost-reduction and alternate raw material trials while maintaining product quality.
- Monitor manufacturing cost per kg and identify productivity improvement opportunities.

Safety & EHS
- Ensure safe handling, storage and transfer of solvents, pigments, resins, additives and finished inks.
- Ensure compliance with PPE, ventilation, grounding, bonding, fire safety and chemical segregation requirements.
- Maintain availability of Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and ensure employees are trained on chemical hazards.
- Drive incident and near-miss reporting and corrective action closure.
- Ensure compliance with applicable safety, environmental and statutory requirements.

Systems & Continuous Improvement
- Develop and maintain SOPs, work instructions, batch records and cleaning standards.
- Ensure proper documentation and change-control practices.
- Monitor production, quality, wastage, downtime and safety performance through regular reviews.
- Drive 5S, Kaizen, process standardization and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Coordinate with Maintenance for preventive maintenance, calibration and equipment reliability.




- Prepare and submit regular production and performance reports to the Plant Head.

Required Qualifications & Experience
- B.Sc. / M.Sc. in Chemistry, Paint Technology, Printing Technology, Polymer Science or related discipline.
- B.Tech. in Chemical Engineering may also be considered.
- 8–15 years of relevant experience in inks, paints, coatings, pigments, resins, adhesives, solvents, specialty chemicals or similar batch-process industries.
- Strong experience in ink formulation and batch manufacturing.
- Experience in production planning, quality troubleshooting and team management.
- Hands-on understanding of dispersion, mixing, filtration and formulation correction.
- Knowledge of RCA, CAPA, process validation and manufacturing documentation.
- Good understanding of chemical safety and EHS practices.
